A guy I've been talking to who claims he has talked to a lot of voters says the Republicans will lose the next election if Bush doesn't do something dramatic about the illegal immigrant situation. It's not just the jobs aspect, either. They're using up resources in hospitals and not paying their bills. They seem to think that they are 'entitled' to all the perks of US Citizens just for crossing the border.

They are bringing in crime, drugs, prostitution, and gang activity. It's costing a lot in manpower for law enforcement. Illegals are arrested for driving (usually DUI) with no license or insurance but put right back on the streets by the judges. They have been the drivers in more than their share of automobile accidents, often with deadly results.

Illegal Immigrants think American Jurisprudence is a Joke.

"Illegal Immigrants think American Jurisprudence is a Joke."

Unfortunately, I believe that it will take a catastrophe which will be traced to perpetrators who crossed one or both borders, before Washington gets the message and begins to formulate a real plan.....like erecting fences (exactly like Israel's double, electified fence), along both northern and southern borders. These would be additionally reinforced with manned guard towers at appropriate, effective intervals.

"what is the meaning and purpose of a Zogby poll?"

This one appears to be accurate, and a genuine reflection of what Americans think on this topic. That's the meaning of it. His other polling seems to me to be skewed wildly to represent false conclusions favoring the liberal left.

"... greatest opponents of illegal immigration are Democrats,..."

Then why is the ACLU (Amerikian Communist Lawyers Union) harassing the Minutemen down at the border?

Great point..........and you're right. Why are Boxer and Feinstein backing driver's licenses for illegals?

"According to the report, the greatest opponents of illegal immigration are Democrats, African-Americans, women and people with household income below $75,000, those with the most to lose in the job market."

This is a golden issue for Hillary. It unites her base, and lets her reach across the divide to disaffected conservatives.

Not to mention that the GOP margin of victory is already thin in many states (FL, NV, NM, CO) most impacted by illegal immigration.

If our party leaders don't start listening to the people, the open borders elitists are going to hand the White House to Hillary. And, as they say, hell hath no fury...

This is absolutely true, and it is the biggest worry I have about the consequences to our party of this admininstration's "do nothing" policy. If the president would just announce that he has reformulated the border protection issue for America, and that he has now decided that previous plans are unrealistic. Further, that he is going to order the immediate construction of double fences, electrified, along both northern and southern borders, manned by guard towers placed at intervals........he would have the gratitude and support of 88+% of the American people.

If he were to say that he intends to strongly urge his Republican successor to continue with this new policy, we would be home free, and Killery & Billery would then begin house hunting back down in Arkansas.

The fact that many of them may be criminal, (well other than the fact that they are all here illegally, making them criminal) is really a secondary issue to me.

I have nothing against hispanic people. In fact, I rather like most of them and find them, mostly, extremely hard working. At least, the first generation immigrants.

My issue is, I do not think it is wise to shift your demographics at such a rapid pace. And expect or encourage no assimilation. We already see that many of them view the situation as"us vs them". I don't see how this will possibly play out in a positive light in the future. I certainly see "autonomous regions" on the map if this isn't halted. And, maybe even if it is halted because it may be damn well too late.
