Ultimately, the two men you name were the ONLY ones with the power to step in and fulfill their sworn duty to protect the well-being of one of their weakest and most helpless INNOCENT citizens, Terri Schindler Schiavo.

Sadly, they failed the test, and by inaction handed the power of the executive branch over to the judicial despots.

The judiciary in the United States is slowly coverting inflict ing a Soviet-style despotism upon our nation. In effect, the judiciary is becoming our "communist party", and other organs of government will be little more than window-dressing--in other words, "Potemkin villages."
