MIAMI - The family of a severely brain-damaged woman who died after her feeding tube was removed in March said Friday they still have not been told where her remains will be laid to rest.
Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings, who waged a lengthy court battle over her end-of-life wishes, said on Fox's "Hannity & Colmes" show that her husband is keeping her remains from them.
"They were supposed to tell us, and we still have not heard from ... Michael Schiavo where Terri's been laid," said Terri Schiavo's brother, Bobby Schindler. "Our family expected this. Michael has disobeyed court orders throughout the ordeal and continues to do so today."
Michael Schiavo is under court order to notify the Schindlers of his plans for a memorial service. He has had his wife cremated and has said her ashes would be buried at a family plot in Pennsylvania.
George Felos, Michael Schiavo's attorney, did not immediately return a call Friday night seeking comment.
Terri Schiavo, 41, died March 31 in a Pinellas Park hospice, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed by court order. She suffered brain damage in 1990 after a chemical imbalance caused her heart to stop.
She left no written instructions in the event she became disabled, and her husband said she never would have wanted to be kept alive in what court-appointed doctors called a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery.
The Schindlers, however, doubted she had any such end-of-life wishes. They maintained she would benefit from rehabilitation, despite most doctors saying her condition was irreversible
"That makes no sense whatsoever. If the jury didn't think she was criminally responsible, they would have found her not guilty."
What you say is true with Blue State juries; Red State juries tend to be more punishment-oriented.
That was in response to a poster at post #3:
jeez - let it go already
I have only been here a short time but there is something I just don't get. If a topic is not something that interests a person or is felt to be already covered extensively, why then is it not just ignored or passed by. Why is it necessary to make comments like this, "let it go already"? Just asking.
When did Hannity call him? After Terri's death? And brought it to his attention? Where was Mark, in Siberia? Or why didn't Hannity call him sooner? The book is coming out on July 1. Sounds like it was thrown together pretty quickly. I can't believe that anybody thinks this is anything other than to make money from Terri's death. Give me a break.
Another brilliant Freeper.
Ok, Then Susan Smith.
Nope. It's already on Amazon.
I'll tell you what choices she made that got her there in the first place...obsessive dieting, taking diuretics and laxatives. That was her choice. But nobody likes to talk about it.
As Rush pointed out, it also flushed out those who had made the decision to "pull the plug" on a loved one in whatever fashion, and who hoped that they hadn't made a selfish choice. Even the unanswered questions about Terri and the whole Felos-Greer-Pinellas County swamp would not deter them from siding with Michael.
I didn't realize that was proven beyond what Michael S. said.
Your living will is too simplified. Living wills have more options these days. I would opt for keeping my feeding tube and life support for a few days or weeks. But no serious life support for months and years. Feeding tube for years is OK for me
Like I said, unbalanced parents are known to murder their children. Adult children are a different story. A spouse may have nefarious intent towards another spouse, but it is unthinkable for parents to have nothing but the best intentions towards their GROWN ADULT children. Guardianship laws need to be changed to reflect this.
And you know what how?
Though I may agree with you that he most likely was abusive towards her
It is not widely established
Because of the statue of limitations .. there has never been a proper investigation done on this issue
Please stick to the facts that are known .. otherwise you don't help Terri's case
Right you are. I don't get it.
I agree the article is poorly worded
Also her family has no idea of what is going on with her ashes or Michael's plans
"Please stick to the facts that are known .. otherwise you don't help Terri's case"
I AM sticking to the facts. I said WIDELY established, not LEGALLY established. There is nothing in any criminal code US or state stating "smoking tobacco causes lung cancer." But it is WIDELY established just the same.
The law means nothing to most of the "pro Terri" types.
Don't be surprised. On another thread she said it was no big deal for babysitters to strip naked with the kids they are watching and allow them to feel them up and couldn't believe we thought the babysitter in the story should be punished.
Because there are certain posters who are obsessed with creating strife.
How could you not know this simple fact about this case. Everyone testified to it. The malpractice lawsuit was predicated on it. Oy.
