"
we should hire illegal aliens to build the fence
just to upset the unions"
IMO, they should be forced to work on the fence to pay off the $5000 fine plus costs of detainment for entering the US through an undesignated checkpoint.

Yet many politicians are going against the wishes of those who voted for them and still support illegal aliens. Makes one wonder - blackmail, bribes, assurances of reelection through voter fraud, sleeper agents?

RWR, you don't like Zogby. Here's a starter list:
91 percent of those polled believe that illegal immigration is a serious problem.
Opinion Dynamics Poll for Fox News, April 25-26, 2005
55 percent of Florida voters polled believe that immigration harms the United States.
Research 2000 Florida Poll, March, 2005
A majority of Americans (52 percent) want the level of immigration reduced. Only 7 percent want to see it increased.
Gallup Poll, January 3-5, 2005
Eighty percent of Carolinians said it should be harder for people to immigrate to the United States.
2003 Carolinas Poll, August 2004
Half of Americans (49 percent) want immigration reduced. Only 14 percent want to see it increased.
Gallup Poll, July 22, 2004
Eighty-five percent of Americans believe that "large number of immigrants entering the U.S." is an important threat to the vital interest of the United States in the next 10 years. Of those, 50 percent believe it is a "crticial threat."
Gallup Poll, February 2-12, 2004
The whole page of polls showing Americans are against unbridled immigration can be found at this link.

We are closer to a solution than many think.
George Bush and the GOP will pander their way up to 51% of the Hispanic vote. The next morning, the entire Democratic Party will turn nativist with a vengeance. The unions will rise up in fury, Jesse Jackson will demand the expulsion of Mexicans and a minority quota system that keeps A-A's as the dominant minority group. Deep thinkers on the communitarian left will discover the importance of cultural continuity. Bobby Byrd will break out his white sheet ....
With the 'rats providing most of the votes, we will close the borders, the GOP will sew up the Hispanic vote for the next 100 years, and the democratic coalition will be reduced to unions, blacks, abortion providers, journalists, and college professors.
Ya just gotta understand the strategery.

I don't doubt there is great animosity toward illegal immigration in this country, and I oppose it more than anyone, I was just making a point that Zogby has zero credibility in my book, and I rely on his polling for nothing.

This is a winning issue for some aspiring Republican who desires to be the nominee in 2008.
President Bush has handed the GOP an issue that can keep them in the White House.
Now, who will have the courage to step up and take the lead?

And what percent of those people who have legal temporary worker permits will become ILLEGALS when their permits expire?
Who are we kidding here?

Even so, a 62 percent majority, including almost equal majorities of Democrats (65 percent) and Republicans (62 percent), favors allowing illegal immigrants who have jobs in the United States to apply for legal, temporary worker status. No doubt. Some, like you, love illegals for the cheap labor. The rest are too scared to be seen as racists (as you would paint them) to oppose it. And, still some are so enamored of Bush (like you) that they are blinded to the destruction illegals are causing to this society.
I have my opinion on this matter, too.

"lose an argument"
Something that you excel at.
"The poll finds 91 percent think the illegal or undocumented immigration situation in the United States today is a "very" serious (63 percent) or "somewhat" serious (28 percent) problem."
