Per Foxnews Alert!
Looks like Kofi Annan may be going down. Foxnews has obtained video tapes of Kofi Annan and Paul Volcker.
There are inconsistencies in Kofi Annan's statements. In other words...he's been caught red handed!
Parton hired Lanny Davis to represent him.
It starts with Kofi and ends with...
I got totally side tracked with the kids and missed the conference
Can you give me a summary?
MSNBC just said that Volcker has said Parton could testify in public. Nothing about the documents.
I hope Congressional staffers are wearing out a Xerox machine as we post.
Those are excellent questions. If the connection was made, it would answer many of those questions. Paul Volker is an insiders insider. He is one of the wise men of Washington. He knows and does buisness with anyone who is anyone. His exaggerated efforts to defuse this circumstance was too declarative that it was not about anyone or anything except those who are the most important people or institutions, which are made at risk if the complete story is exposed. This press conference got out of hand for Volker and he exposed the gravity of sunshine on this coverup. I hope we will see it thru.
"..Mr. Volcker, and he put forward a very constructive way for Mr. Parton to cooperate with the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation's inquiry while still addressing relevant confidentiality concerns" (Coleman)
What I understood Volcker to have proposed today was that Parton could sing and sing re: Kofi.....the UN would "release" him from the confidentiality agreement in that narrow respect.......and that the documents would be returned or the UN would sue Congress for their return.
Its all a big sham to keep attention on Kofi so others can escape scrutiny......and it looks like Coleman is falling for it, by his statement. I hope I'm wrong about Coleman.
It sounds as though Volcker doesn't mind what Parton is going to say, only about the documents that Parton wants to use to back up his conclusions.
A major problem that I have with this is that Parton did not resign immediately after the interim report was released. If his complaint is that Kofi is guilty, then why wait several months to resign?
Somebody smarter than me will have to answer that one.
Parton is a player in this, whatever his actions have been and will be. It is possible that he will play this out as Volcker tries to demand.....Volcker chose him, remember, so you never know......so far, all we know about parton is that he has limited everything to Kofi, so far......I'd feel LOTS more confident in Parton if he were talking about more than Kofi
That is exactly what the WSJ article implied. We all know Kofi is guilty, but their is no smoking gun to shoot him with and finish him off. So, Lanny Davis and the Clintons come up with the idea of distracting attention and demeaning the investigation to take the heat off of the other players in the security council, including the Clinton administration.
This is much like the accusation by Albright that the N Koreans acquired nuclear arms during the Bush administration. They will claim that the Bush administration knew about the oil for food scam since 2000, but did nothing.
For now, the Clintons are protected, Lanny's checks are cashed and it is business as usual.
"Volcker is trying to assert powers that he does not have, and was not granted during the investigation."
What do you expect?, he was appointed by Jimmuh Cahtuh.
I wish the House Judiciary Committee would set up it's own investigation of the UN to complement Coleman, because Judiciary is LOADED with hardcore conservatives that would love to give Kofi a Grand Old anal probe.
And the Clinton's weren't protected before?
"Kofi is probably gone within a couple of weeks."
I don't know, these UN Nutballs are as hard to kill as cockroaches.
He's more likely to get a Nobel Peace Prize by some Joker in the EU in a couple of weeks then get canned...
Me, myself and I, but sometimes I suspect me.
I am not fully up speed on this, but I suspect there are competing players with hidden agendas.
I can't see KA taking the fall alone.
How was he to lnow the report would be a sham until it was issued and then he needed time to acquire the documents over a period of time. It isn't like he could just take out a few boxes at one time.
"Its all a big sham to keep attention on Kofi so others can escape scrutiny......and it looks like Coleman is falling for it, by his statement. I hope I'm wrong about Coleman."
Henry Hyde will have to agree with Coleman to compromise and I doubt Henry will do it because Hyde is a mean old bastard.
