Both Turner in '84 and Campbell in '93 led in the polls going into elections - Martin can also be beaten by similarly staying on message and driving home his government's open corruption!

Fortune favors the brave (and the focused) Mr. Harper - just ask President Bush!

Canadian convention dictates when the Government loses the support of the House Of Commons it must resign promptly. The Government and Parliament cannot remain opposed on any vital matter of importance. Its the key to the notion of responsible cabinet government.

I am sure that the Conservatives will pull defeat out of the jaws of victory. This will be sad, as I would love a more friendly government in Canada.

A vote in the last week of June would be ideal- it would take place within a week of Karla Homulka's prison release, so the media will be all over their record on criminal justice.

"They are playing with the rules. They are clinging to power. They have no pride any more," he said. "They are trying to modifying (sic) the meaning of the motion. I have never seen such a thing. It's pathetic. This is a government that is crawling on its knees in the gravel. This has to stop."

I envision Daschle in the desert...

and here's hoping, if "conservatives" dominate Canada, that they be CONSERVATIVES rather than CINOs

Despite the Speaker's ruling, Government House leader Tony Valeri said the government will not resign if the opposition wins the vote because it does not consider the non-confidence motion legitimate.

This is ridiculus. The Liberals will do everything in their power to avoid losing power. The scary thing is that they can get away with it. The Liberals can make up the rules as they go and there isn't a thing that can be done to stop them. They aren't just selfish, they are childishly selfish!

Quote: "Parliament could be thrown into a constitutional crisis after the Conservatives yesterday won the right to hold a non-confidence vote on May 18, which the Liberals have vowed to ignore if they lose it."

Pay attention folks, this is coming to a theatre near you if the dems ever get back into power. They will, by hook are crook, do whatever is necessary to hold onto that power. I can imagine a quote from Nancy Pelosi that goes as such: "We intend to ignore the election results until a Court rules on whether it is appropriate to have the Republicans regain control of the House."

the USA MSM STILL is totally silent on this scandal to the north. I wonder if they would be as silent if the parties were reversed.

What the hell is going on up there? It's like my old student government at the University of Wisconsin. We had enough votes to remove the corrupt president, but he refused to leave! We had to get the university police and the chancellor involved, and have him physically removed. Hopefully the Governor-General has some sense (and some day) in the matter.
