Ceremony For Schiavo Case Judge Protested

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Protesters greeted the circuit judge who presided over the Terri Schiavo case as he arrived at a bar association ceremony where he was honored with a standing ovation.

Judge George Greer on Thursday night told members of the West Pasco Bar Association that he will treasure the group's Special Justice Award recognizing his 13 years on the bench.

Outside, about 15 people carried signs criticizing Greer for issuing the court order to withdraw a feeding tube from the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman. Schiavo died 13 days later, ending a bitter seven-year legal fight between her husband and her parents.

"These past several years have been a bit trying," Greer told the audience. "You see my friends out there at the gate."

Demonstrator Mary Kimball said the award was an "injustice." "They're spitting on Terri's grave," she said. "That's what this is."

I think it's improper for a judge to accept an award for how he ruled in a case.

I'm beginning to think that Shakespeare had the right idea.

If I'm not mistaken, I remember reading somewhere that this particular local Bar is pretty active in the whole "right to die" movement. Guess maybe those pesky three unalienable rights should be revised to read lies, liberal liberty, and pursuit of death.

Judge Greer, the murderer. How dare they give him an award and he gloat about it?

Does that guy have a heart?

Apparently that's not the case here.

From the article to which you are responding:

Judge George Greer on Thursday night told members of the West Pasco Bar Association that he will treasure the group's Special Justice Award recognizing his 13 years on the bench.
And from Reuters:
Judge George Greer received the West Pasco Bar Association's Special Justice Award for his integrity and professionalism, according to the attorney in charge of the event, Alan Miller. He said the award was intended to honor Greer for his entire career, not just the Schiavo case.

Had he not been on the case or ruled to save a human life, it's highly doubtful Greer would be getting an award...

imo

The liberals are smart enough to cover there tracks. Too bad the GOP doesn't think ahead like that.

Greer is a republican. That is the problem. The Pinellas Cty and Pasco Cty GOP are RINOS. Greer has split the GOP and they do not represent our interests. They love him and hate us. There will be trouble next year because of liberal republicans like Greer. Not only is he liberal but he violated so many guardianship laws and so far, is getting away with it. Terri's not the first or will she be the last. First they launder the ward's property to trustees who are unrelated to the wards who get a court order from Greer. Then they set them up in a suite at Hospice Auschwitz. This is all documented. Even state auditors are not permitted to review the guardianship files. Greer is a stonewalling murderer.

The fact that they make a big deal about the fact that he's a Republican just shows that what he did was political. Politics ought have nothing to do with the judiciary, but in this age of judicial activism, where politicians block judges for political reasons, it does.

The Pinellas HQ used to hang up on me if I called and said I supported Jeb Bush's efforts to save Terri Schiavo. They would say "J. Greer is a fair man" and threaten to turn me into the phone company for harassment. What part of starvation don't they understand? The Pinellas GOP is losing members - they are going to take a fall for their guy.

Judicial elections are supposed to be nonpartisan. Just vote against the guy. Support his opponent. I'm sure he'll run again. He's a stubborn one.

I'm in Orlando. The truth is that we can't elect good judges. We're conservative. Our judges are liberal. The problem is that the average trial lawyer is a liberal and judges are typically chosen from the ranks of trial lawyers. Even the GOP trial lawyers are RINOs.

My husband and I called the National Republican Committee a number of times, and told them we would not contribute to them, because they are backing anti-life politicians.

However, we will contribute to pro-life politicians, but we were angry, so did not tell them that.

If anyone is interested in calling the National Republican Committee, the number is 202-863-8500; if #1 comment is not accessible, call again and press #3.

The Florida Republican Party # is 850-222-7920.

Apparently they do not respect us, but they always respect our money. If enough of us do this, they will have to stop supporting pro-death candidates.

(My 2-cent mantra.)
