I'm sure "60 Minutes" views Putin as an "expert" on democracy.

If anyone knows how "NOT" to export democracy, its the sovi . . .errr Russians. I guess that does make him an expert, kinda.

Democracy? Ha! Oh, Putin, you're the one to talk.

"Democracy cannot be exported to some other place. [Democracy] must be a product of internal domestic development in a society," Except that part..

Yeah, well, Putin must have felt right at home with the socialists there at "60 Minutes".

Four years ago your presidential election was decided by the court.
Wrongo, Pooty-poot.
It was attempted, but the effort failed and the presidential election was decided by the electors selected by the voters of the fifty states, as designed.

By no means am I an expert on Russian politics, but Putin seems to me to be longing for the "good ole days" of communism, and is attempting to reinstate some of the mechanism that would take Russia back to the days of the USSR.
Of course he would criticize the electoral college, because without the electoral college, those areas that aren't heavily populated would get trampled on more so than they already do.
I'm always amazed though, at how those who in their own country do not support the freedom of the press, or freedom of speech, come to America, and use our freedoms to spread their beliefs. I bet no one in Russia could criticize Putin's leadership in the same manner he criticized the United States.
But then that's just my two cents worth.

Well, Putin is wrong in that we are not a democracy but rather, a representative republic - hence the electoral college. Mike Wallace should know this but since Putin is criticizing the USA heaven forbid that Wallace get in his way!

I dont think he is being as critical as Mike Wallace or Drudge would want you to think. I am no Pooty fan (sounds wrong), but the media, Drudge included, always want to stir it up..

Putin not only longs for the days of the Soviet Union, he is IMHO actively trying to return to it.

"[Democracy] must be a product of internal domestic development in a society," says the Russian president."
Whereas there is much truth to the idea that change must be desired from within, that is exactly what Putin does not want and is what he is fighting against. He desires an empire that he thinks will give him the personal respect that his ego requires.

STFU Putin, you stupid clown.
To: Paradox
That's certainly true about the media and wanting to stir things up and it's possible things are taken out of context. Nevertheless, I don't trust Putin.

(Putin also believes the U.S. democratic system does not travel well and that is precisely why he was against the war in Iraq from the beginning.)
Putin, are you sure it wasn't because of those juicy oil deals with Saddam? The US democratic system does not travel well! That's a great reason to say no to the war! I'm sure Saddam's tyranny worked better because it was home grown!
To: IMissPresidentReagan
Putin is checking how far he may go. Just like Hitler in 30's.

The "Putin is the greatest leader in the entire history of the world crowd" should be arriving shortly to inform us that we should all be lucky enough to live in Russia under their wonderful system.
