Religion and politics clash over a local church's declaration that Democrats are not welcome.

East Waynesville Baptist asked nine members to leave. Now 40 more have left the church in protest. Former members say Pastor Chan Chandler gave them the ultimatum, saying if they didn't support George Bush, they should resign or repent.

The minister declined an interview with News 13. But he did say "the actions were not politically motivated." There are questions about whether the bi-laws were followed when the members were thrown out.

LOL! I doubt that the pastor said that.

He probably said that if they supported candidates who advocate abortion, they should resign or repent.

Yes. There probably is more to the story.

It is perfectly OK to say that you should vote for anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage candidates, because those values are consistent with the Bible.

I do think these people are probably taking it over the top.

A church should never reject people. Churches should be loving and be a witness to everyone, even if their political views are totally wrong.

That;s not what the Bible says.

A church should accept anyone who is truly repentant for anything wrong they've done and who sincerely want to live in the truth of the Gospel.

But if someone in the church rejects the Gospel they need to be ejected until they repent.

A few weeks ago FR had a list of ideas that would immediately confirm that a person who believes said ideas is a liberal. I can't find that list and could use it to send to my liberal daughter who wondered if I knew what a liberal believes (I know, but I need more ammo). Help! Anyone know how to find it? I tried the search but no luck.

Oh, yes. I was referring to the leadership. If someone in the leadership is going to openly sin (such as homosexuality, adultery) and not repent, then they should be removed immediately.

I was meaning that someone should never be rejected from attending worship service.

I often pause to wonder just what it is about the left that makes them so hostile and paranoid about Christians. Then somebody like this guy comes along and reminds me that yeah, some people are so far over the top that they even seem wacky to me.

I doubt this is the whole story, though. I imagine it was something more along the lines of not supporting pro-abort politicians.

Perhaps you mean the church should not deny the gospel message to anyone. But the Bible actually is quite restrictive about who should and should not be in the church -- especially in leadership. You preach the gospel out in the world. You equip the saints within the church. They are two different things.
