He probably said that if they supported candidates who advocate abortion, they should resign or repent.

It is perfectly OK to say that you should vote for anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage candidates, because those values are consistent with the Bible.
I do think these people are probably taking it over the top.
A church should never reject people. Churches should be loving and be a witness to everyone, even if their political views are totally wrong.
