| A MOTHER who underwent an abortion after learning that she was pregnant with twins is suing the NHS for £250,000 after one of the babies survived. Stacy Dow, who was 16 when she found out that she was pregnant, is seeking compensation and damages for the financial burden of raising her daughter. Miss Dow, whose father has had to take on a second job to help to pay for his granddaughter, is claiming for loss, injury and damage suffered at the hands of Tayside University Hospitals NHS Trust.
When Miss Dow started to put on weight and her periods stopped, she assumed that it was because of the contraception injection she had been given. The hospital had told her that possible side-effects included weight gain and an erratic menstrual cycle. Miss Dow said: After 33 weeks I went to the GP and he told me I was pregnant. I thought he meant I had fallen pregnant again, and I couldnt believe it when I was told that it was one of the original pregnancies.
Miss Dows daughter, Jayde, who is now a healthy three-year-old, weighed 6lb 2oz when she was delivered by Caesarean section on August 30, 2001, at the same hospital in which her mother had had the abortion seven months previously. Miss Dow said of the abortion: They told me in the hospital that the operation had been successful and there was nothing left in the womb. She said that when she discovered that she was pregnant she didnt know what to say or do. When I told my Dad what had happened he nearly crashed his van. I have got a child now that I wasnt planning to have and I believe the hospital should take some reponsibility for that. It has totally changed my life and my parents lives. I wasnt ready for it. She added: I still dont know if, or what, Im going to tell Jayde when the time comes. I just hope she understands what happened and why I did it.
Miss Dow lives with her parents, Douglas, 40, and Barbara, 41. The toddlers father, who has not been named, had been Miss Dows boyfriend at school. He died two years ago. Legal documents filed at Perth Sheriff Court accuse Perth Royal Infirmary of failing to take reasonable care to establish that the termination had been successful. Although the NHS, which is defending the action, admits that a baby survived, it says that a doctor checked the cavity of the uterus and could feel no further products of conception. As far as could be clinically determined the pregnancy had been terminated. It claims that the amount sought by Miss Dow is excessive. In 2001 Kim Nicholls, 36, from Stafford, was given £10,000 in an out-of-court settlement from a surgeon after one of her twins survived an abortion that was carried out privately. |
What has this world come to.
I mean, somebody takes out a contract to have an innocent person killed, and then the killers not only fail to, ahem, execute, if I may so express myself, the contract, but lie to the person who hired them and claim they DID carry out the deal.
What this woman needs to do is to call Luigi to break their legs.
I still dont know if, or what, Im going to tell Jayde when the time comes. I just hope she understands what happened and why I did it.
Try this:
Mommy tried to kill you once, but the killers blew it, and now they're paying for your Mary Janes ...."
That should make the little darling feel just SO precious to Mommy.
I love how the child is called a "burden" in this article. I'm sure he/she receives a lot of love. Why didn't she put the surviving child up for adoption? She didn't have a problem aborting them, so giving the child to loving and deserving parents shouldn't be too hard for her.
This article is disgusting in how it tries to portray this little twit as a victim. It wants the reader to think, "Poor baby, she wanted to be a nurse and now she can't because she has to raise one of the children she created." Perhaps she should exhibit some of the responsibility she wants to show for others in her own life, and not screw around without protection if she doesn't want a child.
She had sex at such an early age, gets pregnant, has an abortion (had one twin murdered) and now is suing because one of the twins survived the abortion.

--> What the mom is practicing is called hypocricy and double standard along with selfishness. It's all around us. If she wins any money I hope it goes to the child@18yrs and the "mom" can't spend it.
Leaves one speechless. The ideas in these words are so pernicious in actually leaves you breathless. A persons life is so easily dismissed as a burden. Actually having to work to support a kid? No mention of the absent father? the devilish ideas inside the words are just endless. And there is no recognition of how evil it is. It is just stunning.
There are no words that would accurately describe this useless blob of carbon. "F***ing evil b*tch from hell who doesn't deserve her children" is pretty close, but still pretty far off the mark.
Get a job, young lady!
"... I have got a child now that I wasnt planning to have and I believe the hospital should take some reponsibility for that. It has totally changed my life and my parents lives. I wasnt ready for it.
The hospital should take responsibility for her having irresponsible sex? I am so sick of hearing about people who say, "It wasn't my fault!" When are people going to start taking responsibility for their own actions, instead of trying to place blame elsewhere?
If you weren't ready for a baby Stacy Dow, you think perhaps you weren't ready for sex??????
She added: I still dont know if, or what, Im going to tell Jayde when the time comes. I just hope she understands what happened and why I did it.
Tell her the truth! I hope she understands why it happened and why she did it too!
Funny: Not one word in the article about "adoption"
"Why didn't she put the surviving child up for adoption?"
Exactly, and I hope the NHS uses that argument in their defense. As a matter of fact, she deserved to lose custody of this child at birth, since she had already tried her damndest to kill it.
"No mention of the absent father?"
Actually, the article states that he was the woman's schoolmate, but that he died two years ago. It doesn't say what he died of, but at such a young age it was probably drugs or violence. Or maybe he just dropped dead when he realizes what a heartless beast he'd fathered a child with.
To this. Unfortunately.
Ever hear of adoption?????
Exactly what Jesus said it would.
Gee, thanks, Mom.
Sorry I've been such a "burden" to you...
Are you thinking of Miller's Crossing?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100150/
You don't "fall pregnant". She make pregnacy sound like a disease in which she had no input.
