Laura's Laff Riot - (first lady's stand-up comedienne routine!)

If there were an Emmy category for stand-up comedy on C-SPAN, she would be this year's odds-on favorite.

Cedric the Entertainer, who had expected to follow the prez for the evening's laughs, knew he was in trouble long before Laura sat down. Her sallies were stingers, with references to her husband as "Mr. Excitement," in bed by 9 o'clock, and to herself and Lynn Cheney and Karen Hughes as "desperate housewives" who sneak out to watch the Chippendales (male strippers) for post-9 o'clock thrills. "I wouldn't even mention it," she said, "except that Ruth Ginsburg and Sandra Day O'Connor saw us there." The producers of NBC-TV's "Saturday Night Live" want her to host a show.

It's always harder for a woman to get laughs. What made Laura so funny was the way she completely went against type, against all conventional expectation. Naturally, in Washington, where everything has to have a political interpretation, some people didn't get it. "It's not hard to figure out why the White House decided to have Laura upstage George," said David Corn, a columnist for Nation magazine. "Her approval rating is almost twice his."

Laura was absolutely hilarious. What some have forgotten is that this was a comedy act and nothing more. To all the shrinking violets who say they were offended by the First Lady's jokes, I say to them, GET OVER IT, That's what she was supposed to do, and she was hilarious

One of them will have to pretend he is not from Texas then. It's unconstitutional to have two people from the same state run on the same ticket.

"To all the shrinking violets who say they were offended by the First Lady's jokes, I say to them, GET OVER IT"

I'm curious...

What makes you say that those who thought Laura was being inappropriate are shrinking violets?

Why do you voice your opinion so freely, yet tell those that disagree to get over it?

Do you think that you telling them to GET OVER IT is helping to inflame the situation here on FR?

Last but not least, do you think freedom of speech only applies to people with the same opinion as yourself?

I really am interested in your answers...

She didn't have to go there (that area of humor).

Good choice on the tagline.

The pundit reaction to Laura Bush's comedy routine reminds me of the joke about the pervert in the insane asylum who is presented with the Rorschach ink blot test series.

Analyst: What comes to mind when you see this?

Patient: Sex.

Analyst: How about this one?

Patient: Sex.

etc. for four or five more ink blots. Finally, in frustration, the analyst blurts out

Analyst: Don't you think about ANYTHING else!?

Patient: What do you expect when all you show me is these dirty pictures?

For agitation reasons? I suppose you missed all those fruity threads on this subject, perhaps?

"What makes you say that those who thought Laura was being inappropriate are shrinking violets?"

I said all those who were "Offended" not those who thought they were inappropriate. Go back and read some of the outrageous comments made by some here about Laura Bush's jokes on the dozens of threads on the subject. There was one person who said Laura Bush had no business going to Chippendale's..... Sheesh

"Why do you voice your opinion so freely, yet tell those that disagree to get over it?"

I said "get over it" I didn't say they couldn't whine and cry about it

"Do you think that you telling them to GET OVER IT is helping to inflame the situation here on FR?"

It's advice, not name calling, and personally, most of the people who were so "Offended" by the JOKES, are chronic belly achers and Bush bashers anyway

"Last but not least, do you think freedom of speech only applies to people with the same opinion as yourself?"

Not at all, I said "Get over it" not shut up. Some people wake up in the morning looking for something to be offended about, and I think (my opinion) all those who are so outraged and offended over the First Lady's jokes at a gathering were the crowd expects jokes, really should get a life.

Thanks. I was surprised at how inflamatory this subject was.
