I think he can be fine as a closer, but the problem is that his ankle is a problem regardless of what the team and he says. People say he waddles-- he walks so gingerly. I'm expecting nothing from him the whole year, actually.
LOL and congrats, but it ain't over yet. I do admire your tenacity and attention span. You watched closely for a long time waiting to be able to post that. In that regard you beat out most Yankee fans!
Hey, I'm just happy to have a dog in the hunt for a change (O's fan).
Thanks, and I agree on Brown, too! (Although I'll cut him a little slack simply for being in the game last night without a rehab start.)
I think one of the problems with the Sox is too much celebration of winning the WS, and too much indulgence in the off-the-field stuff. One example -- why did Bronson Arroyo have a concert the night before starting against the Yankees? My admittedly biased observation is that the Sox don't seem hungry now, the way they were last year, while the Yankees have finally shaken off their lethargy and are on fire.
It's easy to say that he sucked because of the guitar playing, but the actual reason isn't so hard to figure out. He simply sucks against the Yankees. He did last year and he has this year. I can't explain it, but the stats don't lie.
I agree with your statement about "too much indulgence in the off-the-field stuff" regarding the Red Sox. It's something I've been wondering about also, watching all the hype on NESN for Bronson Arroyo's CD release party, Theo Epstein's "Hot Stove, Cool Music" party last Saturday night starring pitcher Tim Wakefield (who lost to the Yankees Sunday). I think Arroyo was also there onstage. There have been other events - these are just two examples. I know these guys are young, but how can they be at their best at game time after being up all hours at these events?
This was a hot topic on WEEI radio (850AM Boston) after last night's loss to the TB D'Rays (from what I could hear thru the static - WEEI faded out as we drove out of the Boston area). I also found this article in today's Boston Globe:
Out of tune

Well, here we are, less than a week into the second half and your Boston Red Sox have thrown more concerts than they have wins... Read full article here
You may be interested in the very excerpted (sorry!) article I posted above about the Red Sox players' off-the-field activities (concerts, etc). The link to the Boston Globe article is at the end of my post #525.

Bump.
A truism: "Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical" --Yogi Berra
Not for long. .....'cause we have Aaron Small pitching today (whoever the hell that is).
One thing I've noticed with the Yanks is that there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to who they hit well against this year. They can knock around really good pitchers, but struggle against clowns like Chan Ho Park.
I agree, and thanks for the link. Besides, it's kind of unseemly to do this perpetual victory lap. Not only did you not see the Yankees do that, even though they won four WS titles in five years, you don't see the New England Patriots do it.
So how did this race wind up?
lol....well, we know who he is now, don't we?
10 - 0 with a 3.20 ERA.
Probably thinking that they won't be able to do one again for another 86 years...
It won't be long before the next generation of Yankee fans is chanting "2004!, 2004!"
10 - 0 with a 3.20 ERA."
Yep. Un-believable....And Chacon. They saved the $200m bankroll and Cashman and Torre.
Hey btw bro, this is one heluva thread to back the truck up and bust some Bosox Fans...like El Tianti, lol.
Yeah, how 'bout 'em ;)
