How long before Schilling is able to start? Even when completely healthy he doesn't look like the reliever type -- takes too long to warm up. I think he can be fine as a closer, but the problem is that his ankle is a problem regardless of what the team and he says. People say he waddles-- he walks so gingerly. I'm expecting nothing from him the whole year, actually.

Who's the loser now? All you chump yankee haters can crawl back under your rocks now.LOL and congrats, but it ain't over yet. I do admire your tenacity and attention span. You watched closely for a long time waiting to be able to post that. In that regard you beat out most Yankee fans!
Hey, I'm just happy to have a dog in the hunt for a change (O's fan).

The Yanks deserve 1st place. We've been holding on to 1st place for weeks without any right to it at all, playing awful baseball. Congrats. Kevin Brown still sucks, though. Thanks, and I agree on Brown, too! (Although I'll cut him a little slack simply for being in the game last night without a rehab start.)
I think one of the problems with the Sox is too much celebration of winning the WS, and too much indulgence in the off-the-field stuff. One example -- why did Bronson Arroyo have a concert the night before starting against the Yankees? My admittedly biased observation is that the Sox don't seem hungry now, the way they were last year, while the Yankees have finally shaken off their lethargy and are on fire.

One example -- why did Bronson Arroyo have a concert the night before starting against the Yankees? It's easy to say that he sucked because of the guitar playing, but the actual reason isn't so hard to figure out. He simply sucks against the Yankees. He did last year and he has this year. I can't explain it, but the stats don't lie.

One example -- why did Bronson Arroyo have a concert the night before starting against the Yankees? I agree with your statement about "too much indulgence in the off-the-field stuff" regarding the Red Sox. It's something I've been wondering about also, watching all the hype on NESN for Bronson Arroyo's CD release party, Theo Epstein's "Hot Stove, Cool Music" party last Saturday night starring pitcher Tim Wakefield (who lost to the Yankees Sunday). I think Arroyo was also there onstage. There have been other events - these are just two examples. I know these guys are young, but how can they be at their best at game time after being up all hours at these events?
This was a hot topic on WEEI radio (850AM Boston) after last night's loss to the TB D'Rays (from what I could hear thru the static - WEEI faded out as we drove out of the Boston area). I also found this article in today's Boston Globe:
Out of tune

Well, here we are, less than a week into the second half and your Boston Red Sox have thrown more concerts than they have wins... Read full article here

You may be interested in the very excerpted (sorry!) article I posted above about the Red Sox players' off-the-field activities (concerts, etc). The link to the Boston Globe article is at the end of my post #525.

Yeah, the book says you run on Williams...but Mirabelli also comitted a base running error. When Mirabelli rounded 2nd base, his head and eyes should have immediately picked up the third base coach or the base runner ahead, especially if the ball is behind him, which was in this the case. Mirabelli went almost 2/3rds the way to third before he realized 3rd base was occupied. So we have two mental mistakes. one by Sveum for holding up the runner against Bernie's peewee league throwing arm, and two, Mirabelli's base running error.

It's mental laziness and mental distraction. It started a week before the ASB. I don't know what will wake them up. I'll volunteer to throw hot coffee in their faces if it will help. A truism: "Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical" --Yogi Berra

Not today Mojo Heehee: Not for long. .....'cause we have Aaron Small pitching today (whoever the hell that is).

I can't explain it, but the stats don't lie. One thing I've noticed with the Yanks is that there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to who they hit well against this year. They can knock around really good pitchers, but struggle against clowns like Chan Ho Park.

Besides, it's kind of unseemly to do this perpetual victory lap. Not only did you not see the Yankees do that, even though they won four WS titles in five years, you don't see the New England Patriots do it.

10 - 0 with a 3.20 ERA.
