Is it your opinion that the behavior of the soldiers at Abu Ghraib should have continued? It is the responsibility of the media to expose atrocious behavior even if it makes our govt. or military look bad. The media was not responsible for the Abu Ghraib scandal, but the military was.

Hackworth should have known that army commanders like to attack controversial issues IN HOUSE before things migrate up the chain.

If he was anything worth what he professed to be in caring about soldiers, anyway.

The Abu Ghraib incident (and I have vigorously condemned it), could have been dealth with if the great Colonel, who was well known, had sent it up the chain of command.

Instead, he took the low road by releasing the pictures to our soldiers' #2 enemy, the US MEDIA.

Technically it was the responsibility of those in charge at the camp to knock the $hit off, but she didn't now did she? and the lower ranks are getting busted for it, as they should, but there should be repercussions for those a big higher than PFC ya know? RIP Hack.

We are a nation of weak sisters that blind ourselves by our incessent need to maintain the pretence we are good.

Of course it is so much more humane to turn prisoners over to the control of countries not so incumbered.

Which was worse?

Those pictures were given to Hackworth because the perps were already under investigation, and one of the family members unsuccessfully blackmailed the Pentagon to hault the investigation or the pictures would be released to the media.

I beg your pardon. Trafficking in those pictures with CBS got our people KILLED just like the Kerrys, and the Clintons, and the Moores, and the Frankens, and the rest of the leftists aid and comfort to the enemy. It emboldens them. It causes additional resistance, additional attacks, additional deaths. You can deny, but you can't change the truth.

The events at Abu Ghraib were over reported.

Fanatics were cutting off the heads of Americans even as the media hyped that story.

Even Alan Dershowitz has acknowledged that certain treatments of prisoners in order to obtain information is acceptable. The Media rarely reports that sort of thing. I am not advocating torture here, but what happened at Abu Ghraib was more BS than anything else.

It had ended before he gave the pictures to the media.

Yes. One did not go to Abu Ghraib unless you were caught shooting at American troops or planting IED's. We should have just killed the ba$+@rds and none of this would have happened.

The media was not responsible for the Abu Ghraib scandal, but the military was.

The military took immediate aggressive steps to fix the problem when it was found out. The media largely ignored these ameliorative actions and puffed up the problem all beyond proportion, thus inflaming passions needlessly and contributing to a large number of innocent deaths.

In the end the military stood tall. But the media has yet to own up to its appalling behavior.
