Retired Army Col. David Hackworth, a decorated Vietnam veteran who spoke out against the war and later became a journalist and an advocate for military reform, died Wednesday in Mexico, where he was receiving treatment for bladder cancer, his wife said. He was 74.
"He died in my arms yesterday morning," his wife, Eilhys England, said Thursday.
Hackworth, a syndicated columnist for King Features, advocated a streamlined military and improved conditions for troops.

I may be mistaken, but:
wasn't Col. Hackworth one of the most, if not the most, decorated soldier in Vietname; and
the journalist who noticed that Boorda was wearing an incorrect decoration????????

Thank you. That is so sad. He loved our country and our military. His ways were different than mine, but I respected him. Prayers go out to his family.

He started out at CNN during Desert Storm, moved to MSNBC when they went on the air, and bounced back and forth between MSNBC and FOX News until he started being critical about Bush's military policy, FOX News later dumped him.

And I know of no one who those quacks in Mexico have cured. But I know of several people those bas***ds have killed with their snake oil treatments. Exactly. Quacks in Mexico who offer false hope (for a price) for people who are beyond treatment

I totally disagreed with his politics but he served his country honorably and should be remembered for that! RIP Col. Hackworth and my prayers go out to your family.

"cared about his men"
That must have been before he became a commentator on TV.

Sad to hear of his passing when I didnt even know he was so ill.
I believe Hack also enlisted in Korea and perhaps snuck into WW2, His bio is pretty extensive.
A true warrior and a great patriot. We don't like to hear our military bashed but I am sure he saved many soldiers lives with his firebrand ways....
THANKYOU HACK REST IN PEACE GOOD MAN!!

You are kinder than I would be, but I'll not think badly of him now that he can't hurt our troops anymore.

I realize that when a Dr. tells you that there is no hope for a terminal illness, you don't want to give up hope.
That is a human reaction. And those quacks in Mexico prey on those dying people. They give them hope when there is none. And take their money.

While I often did not agree with Hack, I praise his service during and after his Army career. He always stood strong for the boots. And his country.
I was disappointed when conservative media censured him early in the recent Iraq war. His opinions may have been contrary, but his views, over all, were valuable if for no other reason than providing a different perspective.
Stand down, Hack. You are with your troops now.
