Social security is nothing more than a transfer payment from the young to the old. Privatisation and private investment is the only answer.
To suggest that the present scheme has to be maintained is to support the continued, untenable theft of assets from the young to the old. It is disingenuous claptrap to suggest otherwise.
PS - you idiot, mendacious liberals got your arses kicked. Put some ice on it and drink a massive cup of shut the bloody hell up.

So this logically means progressive taxes are a tax increase.

And all I can say for Bush's energy plan is, if he thinks Americans want to give even more huge tax breaks to the oil companies when they are already making obscene profits, he's been talking to people on the wrong planet. It seems to me that Bush opposed this. Molly must also be part of the energy disinformation plan too.

I thought this might have been penned a fair minded person with some sense about economics, but then I saw it was written by Molly Ivins... never mind.

If Fidelity Investments ran their retirement accounts like Social Security, thousands would be indicted.

As long as I get my SS check to spend at the casino when I am 65 (or 70, whatever)...it's all good.

Just as sure as "extraordinary rendition" now means "shipping the guy to another country so he can be tortured," progressive indexing means cutting benefits. I can't understand why Molly wants to bring up Elian Gonzales again. Didn't she get the talking points memo to "just move on"?

And what, exactly, would be your solution, O Gifted One? I don't hear any of your ilk offering solutions. Just sewage spewing out the wrong end of your digestive systems.

I'm 32. I don't know anyone my age or younger who actually expects Social Security to be around for us when we retire. That's why I have a 401(k) and a retirement plan.
