Students at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School at Gallaudet University had used e-mail and a school Web log to get first-hand accounts of the insurgency in Iraq and the daily survival of a U.S. Marine stationed there.
Yesterday, the 42 students met their personal link for the first time.
Excerpt Washington Times: Marine meets his Internet pen pals
Won't be many dry eyes after reading this story.
BTT. The Sergeant got it right - we didn't have this after Vietnam. I think a lot of things might have been different if we had.
*cough*
Great story.
*sniff*
Dang but I love our soldiers/marines/sailors/airmen.
Remember I warned you.
Outstanding!!!
I am thrilled to know about this not only because of this tear-drawing story - but this is happening and being taught to school kids! I give a great big round of applause to that teacher! He is a hero too in his own way!
Indeed. Thanks for the ping!
Great story!
I second that!
I'm so glad these kids "caught it?"
~snif~
Kids of all shapes, sizes, and ages; add Service Members and its a natural, like apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top.
Here, I have an extra something must be going around.
You are exactly right!
I suspect it had to be incredible for this Marine to have so many kids loving him and his little family like that too. I wish and hope that all of our service men may have that kind of love showered on them.
Yeah, it is. And it's a good something.
My son-in-law "vacationed" in Baghdad too. I was so touched when he got here to the airport at the strangers who wanted to buy him a beer at the airport. It's one thing for me to love soldiers in my family - but quite another blessing when folks we never met appreciated him. :-)
Ping!
Great story.
Hey there WN... Long time no see. :-)
I hope all is well with you.
Gotta love the description about how Camel spiders aren't "really" 12 inches across. They're "only" five inches across. Yeah. That helps. :-)
Better than what many of us got during the Nam years.
Well, you know me, I like spiders. I've kinda been wanting to see one of those camel spiders in person. Sorry, I know you're cringing now. Tom keeps insisting that if I met a camel spider I wouldn't like it - but I think I oughtta at least have my own chance to see.
now, there's some snakes he's been tellin' me about.... Well, lets just say *those* could keep me in the states!
Gees wouldn't it be wonderful if every classroom in America could adopt soldiers like this? We could be looking at an awesome patriotic country when those schoolkids grow up.
Yep, you are absolutely right. But, any that came to my neighborhood got welcomed - and just in case you haven't had one lately - Welcome home and THANKS!!! And that comes along with a big Texas-sized HUG!
