FReeper Canteen~May~National Military Appreciation Month~May 5, 2005
May 4, 2005 | bentfeather/Canteen Crew

For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday...
Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed Forces.

~May~ National Military
Appreciation Month~

We thank you, you who volunteer
To join the military to protect
what's here...
The Constitution, the Rule of law,
Our way of freedom loved by all
In this wondrous land of ours
Whose Stars and Stripes flow freely
O’er the land, whose seas are free,
Don’t tread on us... we are too, proud
To let you turn us into dust!

We appreciate your bravery, your valor,
Your honor, your gallantry,
Thank You for all you do.
And let Freedom ring the whole world through.

The price that's paid for freedom made
an entire family terribly sad.
A nation must know the price that's paid
of blood, of tears, of love,
greater than any made
a life for freedom paid.

May our gracious God touch the hearts
and ease their pain.
Their loved one did not die in vain...
A Hero walks tall in a lofty land
of peace and will be forever young,
In the Mansions of the Lord.

Amen

I have never researched the history of cellars/basements..
But if I had to venture a guess..
I would say that here in New England, they probably began as root cellars, a place to store veggies and preserves over winter.

Most oil tanks here are also in the basement..
Leaving oil tanks (for heating) outdoors will cause the fuel to gel..and the furnace to quit..

Our basement very rarely floods, but I think when the water table reaches a climax.. the sump pump simply can't handle it..

This is fun! (What am I again? "It" you say?)

What to do with my new-found powers of "it-ness"?

I am so swamped here in the Canteen that I'd never make it there. LOL! But thanks for the offer. I think I'll go see what else I have loaded.

But keeping the fuel tank indoors is the very first logical reason I have heard for even having a basment in the first place.

I'm in Anchorage. Fort Richardson and Elmendorf AFB are right here in the city. Thank you for your service to our country, and your sons for their service too.
