Stop Cloning and Embryo Research in NEW YORK STATE (e-mail)

Posted on 05/04/2005 5:48:19 PM PDT by Sun

I received this e-mail from NYSCatholicConference.org:

Stop Cloning and Embryo Research Contact Your Assembly Representative Now

On Tuesday, May 3, 2005 the New York State Assembly Health Committee voted in favor of releasing dangerous legislation (A.6300)that would promote human cloning for the purpose of conducting medical experiments on living human embryos. This means that the full Assembly can vote on this issue in the very near future. Please urge your Assembly representative to oppose this bill. Embryonic stem cell research depends on human cloning and is a radical assault on human life! Take action now.

"Just got this note from Assemblyman Sam Hoyt...

How sad.

I guess the next step is to contact our state senators, and if it gets passed there, contact Pataki to veto.

I just contacted the nyscatholicconference.org to tell them (in case they did not hear yet), so that they can contact Catholics by e-mail to tell them to contact their senators and/or Pataki next.

Does anyone know when the embryo feels pain?

I have searched the internet and came up with 4 weeks, but it seems to be debattable, so I was wondering if anyone had a good source.

Thank you.

I found this, but would never be able to watch the video; however, it would be good for pro-aborts to watch it. Perhaps it would change their minds and hearts.

"And, lastly, for those who want to insist that an unborn child doesn't feel anything in spite of its rudimentary nervous system, you can go to this website to see an abortion of a 10 week old embryo in progress. It is a very graphic and upsetting video, but it shows the unborn child dodging the abortion tool, writhing and actually screaming in pain. As much as some don't want to admit it, abortion is a brutal, unscriptural act.The video is at: www.silentscream.org."

worth repeating...

"There are many exciting medical breakthroughs using adult stem cells.

Here’s a very dramatic one that will touch your heart. Umbilical cord
stem sells have given sight and speech to a four-year-old-boy. There’s
even video footage documenting the case. For more details see
http://www.lifeissues.org/lifefinder.asp?id=618 and please spread the
word. While the media touts the remote potential of embryonic stem
cells, many treatments and cures of adult stem cells are going
un-noticed. Please share this information with others!"

Diabetes foundation chooses politics over cure
By Michael Fumento

© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com
The slick Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International flyer that appeared in Sunday newspapers throughout the country showed a little girl on monkey bars with her hand just inches from the next bar. "The cure is so close we can almost touch it," her accompanying mother says. Likewise, JDRF Chairwoman Mary Tyler Moore proclaimed in a recent TV commercial, "We are so close to finding a cure."

So wrong. JDRF is the world's largest juvenile diabetes philanthropy, distributing over $85 million in grants last year. Yet it supports no efforts that could lead to a cure any time soon for this blinding and crippling disease that afflicts as many as 1.7 million Americans. Instead it's become a lobby for controversial embryonic stem-cell research and refuses to help fund the only study that could soon bring a cure.

The mad scientists want government grants to make themselves rich, and are trying to get our tax dollars for embryonic stem cell research.

HOWEVER, there has never, ever been a single cure with EMBRYONIC stem cells.

The GOOD NEWS is that there have been countless success stories with ADULT stem cells, which include the umbilical cord (confusing, huh?) and you don't have to kill an embryo.

Here's just SOME of the success stories from ADULT stem cells:

Alzheimer’s Disease
Researchers from the University of California, San Diego, have used patients’ adult skin cells to cut in half the progression of the mental decline from Alzheimer’s.[1] Other published research shows bone-marrow stem cells could be useful in treating neurodegenerative disorders.

Bone and Cartilage
German doctors have grown a new jaw bone from bone marrow stem cells to replace a man’s lower jaw lost to cancer.

Bone marrow stem cells are also being used by doctors to construct cartilage in damaged and arthritic joints.

Stem cells from human fat are being used by researchers to grow human bone cells and heal large cranial defects in animals.

Brain Damage
Umbilical cord blood stem cells have shown to reduce brain damage in stroke victims
Cancer/ Leukemia
Bone marrow and umbilical cord blood transplants are being successfully used to treat and cure acute leukemia and other fatal cancers. Additional research reveals adult stem cells show promise in attacking harmful tumors to deliver cancer treatment.
Ear/Eye
Adult stem cells can improve vision in eyes damaged by retinal disease. Mariano Roman, who was blinded for two years from a chemical accident, can now see following a corneal transplant and adult stem cell therapy.[13] Doctors at Osaka University Hospital in Japan have succeeded in restoring the sight of patients by using the patients’ own oral mucous membranes.[14] In research promising to millions of people with hearing loss, scientists have regenerated hearing in mature mammals using adult stem cells.
Heart
Bone marrow stem cells are being used to repair the heart from heart attack damage and blocked arteries.[16] Doctors have used bone marrow stem cells to completely repair the heart of a 16-year-old boy in Michigan, who was shot through the heart with a nail gun.

http://nyscatholicconference.org/pages/our_agenda/show_bill
Embryo/cloning research is not against the law, but the mad scientists want taxpayers to be forced to pay.

The mad scientists can't get anyone to invest in their experiments, because embryos/cloning has never helped anyone. That's why they want taxpayers to be forced to pay.

You see, investors are investing in ADULT stem cells, becaue it is EFFECTIVE.

Please keep calling your assemblypersons as the bill has not yet passed the Assembly.

It was passed by the Health Committee and is now in the Assembly Codes Committee.

Will be voted on by that committee tomorrow, and will then go to the
Ways and Means Committee before possibly reaching the floor of the
Assembly. At this point there is no Senate sponsor for the bill. The reality is that the bill will likely pass in that house easily unless
members get overwhelming pressure from constituents.

Could you ping your NYS ping lists for this update?

I received this by e-mail yesterday from nyscatholicconference.org

Action Needed on Stem Cell Research

Urge the Governor to Support Ethical Research

Take Action!

In his State of the State Message, Governor Pataki announced his
intention to propose a new biotechnology research program that will
leverage $600 million in public and private funds. It is important to
let the Governor know that the public supports stem cell research and
regenerative medicine using ethical sources of stem cells such as adult
tissue and umbilical cord blood, but not immoral research involving
cloning and the destruction of embryos. Time is short; the
Governor's budget proposal is scheduled to be released January 17.
Contact the Governor now!
