Democracy and freedom in the Middle East are needed and required. This issue can be discussed by raising four questions: (1)why does the Middle East need democracy now more than any time ever? (2) Do the peoples of the countries in the Middle East have aspirations to democracy and freedom? (3) Are the rulers of these countries ready to give up the power and authority they have enjoyed for decades? (4)How can democracy and freedom be achieved in this region?
It seems obvious that the Middle East is probably the only region which lacks democracy and freedom. As a result, this region has become the source of terrorism and violence, which affect the stability of the whole world. The rest of the world can no longer lend a deaf ear to the problems of the Middle East.
There is no people in this world that does not need democracy and freedom. The world has become a small village, thanks to communcation satellites and the internet. Therefore, the peoples of the Middle East are aware of the changes that occur here and there. They can also watch on TV how elections are carried out in the US and Europe, and how freedom is practiced in such countries as Ukraine.
The rulers in the Middle East never leave office unless, natural death aside, they are assassinated. Some of them have been in power for over thirty years. Thus there is no way for these rulers to reliquish power voluntarily.
There are two ways that can bring about democracy and freedom to this devasted area. First, the people of each country should rise up and demand their rights instead of waiting for the never-coming generosity of their leaders. Second, the Free World should play a pivotal role in exerting pressure on those leaders that use police force to subdue their citizins. The Free World can also exert efforts to solve the Palestinian issue as soon as possible.
Having said that, I must also refer to the positive steps taken by such a country as Egypt. Egypt, being the largest country in the region, can set a good example to other countries in the region. The Egyptian President Mubarak has already decided to change an article in the constitution that would permit more than one candidate to run for presidency. This is considered a major step towards freedom and democracy for it might open the door for further political reforms.
This should be a very short essay...
Nice post.
Nice post. I agree with everything you said.
The Muslim world needs a hero dedicated to democracy and the rights of man. the muslim world needs a "second amendment" insuring the rights of the individual against the tyrany of the government.
The world will not give you these. You have to take it for yourselves.
