That it's spreading out is most worrisome...is it possible that its only a matter of proper containment measures not being properly applied or does this suggest that the standard measures are not being effective with this strain of Marburg?
Interestingly, the Angolans were the ones who gave the 399 cases number today. The WHO gave smaller figures. I'm one of those who always think that the higher numbers are the more accurate.

Standard treatment measures (for the epidemic) are identification of cases, tracing and observation of contacts, complete isolation of patients in reverse air flow rooms, biohazard level 4 suiting for anyone coming in contact with the patients, avoidance of needle sticks and IV medication, disposal and destruction or total disinfection of any items used by or for the patient including thermometers, stethescopes, linens, beds, food service items, O2 cannulas, on and on.
The standard treatment for patients is supportive, they will either live or die--mostly die. Needle sticks of any kind are CONTRAINDICATED. Supportive means keeping them clean, offering food and fluids, maybe giving oxygen, whatever comfort measures can help, treating secondary infection and coexisting illnesses when possible--but if someone has TB, but is vomiting blood, you can't give oral meds and you can't use injections.
This is really, really dreadful.
