Contrast this to the CIDRAP report. Where does this guy keep his head!

Perhaps he has financial or personal security issues which affect his assessments...

Yes, I understand, thanks.

I knew you did...I just get annoyed every time I see the fatality rate under 99%, because it's such a lie! You'd think these bleeping reporters never took an arithmetic class or something.

Maybe it would be a good idea to use universal precautions while reading this thread.............

Exactly. I've wondered, recently, just exactly what the state does, when it encounters a Marburg victim....maybe the people who fear they may have it, have good reason to lie and flee...

Here is a ProMed reply to the recent articles:

[Earlier optimism that the outbreak was coming under control is dispelled by these new reports, which indicate that the death toll has risen to a figure of 280, which represents an increase of 26 deaths in the past 72 hours, compared with an increase of 2 during the previous 72 hour period. - Mod.CP]

Pretty much.
But I tend to avoid vanity conspiracy theory threads.
They tend to detract attention away from factually based possible conspiracies.

Maybe it would be a good idea to use universal precautions while reading this thread............

Judith thanks for the comprehensive thread. I am a readaholic and thought I had read all the Marburg posts, but today I reread all the links you have posted here.

If you don't mind I would like to point out something weird that I discovered by rereading all the material.

But first a brief disclaimer:

My wife and I are fans of MA, we both feel there is something more (layered) in her posts. Also I tend to be a bit apocalyptic in my world view.

But anyway, for what it is worth, here are a few observations:

1. In the SARS episode MA broke the story, built up a huge information gathering group and then faded away

2. In this Marburg outbreak it appears she has done the same.

3. The only exception to this hypothesis is a single poem she posted on April 29th it reads;

Hiroshimas live
all their life
with faces on silver
partitions
and sleep on the
sly
with the midnight
matter magicians

If anyone can tell me what this means please do.

4. The first post and the last post in "Precognition" (her seminal SARS post) were about EBOLA

5. And from the odd to the truly weird we have this;

MA posted her first post on Marburg on Good Friday and this was her first comment -

Our relationship with God has always been centered upon the principle of "Freedom of Choice". We are free to choose both the good and decent as well as the vile and evil.

But children be not deceived, God also chooses...

On this Good Friday a helpless woman is being killed by starvation and thirst, in the last few words that our Savior spoke were "I Thirst".

Do not choose death for this innocent child of God.

Yes, and if this outbreak hits as hard as some models predict is possible...it will be easier to spot and ignore posts from the paid troll factor.
Alternatively, if in fact this outbreak does quickly die out, as some models predict, I want to know that as soon as possible.
Trolls will hit either way, but it is easier to track them and out them on a single dedicated thread.

I've wondered about that as well. Sporadic posters here raise lots of interesting questions, especially when their posts are notable.

I don't know about MA's eccentricities, but she has pointed us to some troublesome developments. And she hasn't made anyone mad, that I'm aware of.

She's not a troll. She's generally a valuable contributor when she's here. But she's an enigma. I'm not entirely comfortable with that, but until she misleads me, I can live with it.

Well as a sporatic poster myself we have very different takes on MA.

My wife rarely posts, and I post only ever so often.

But I read FR from cover to cover and became absorbed in the SARS posts only because of MA.

Now, like some addict, I have posts by Judith, MA and a few other bookmarked and follow these outbreaks closely.

You say that you don't think MA has made anyone mad. You either were not a part of the SARS road trip or missed the true trolls.

The truth brings out some very hostile creatures, but for all their venom directed at such a gentle lady, you are the first poster I have ever heard use the word troll and MA in the same sentence.

So be it.

Good night, FRiends, and God bless us, every one tonight.

I pray for everyone in this group, that He bless us with peace, clear thoughts, kind deeds, warm hearts, gentle voices, and the courage to shine light on a dark, distant chapter of human history.

May the Lord bless the Angolans, walk among them, comfort them in their grief, and bring an end to this scourge.

Amen

My apologies if this has been posted, I'm quite behind in reading the posts.

Angola's Marburg death toll up to 280

LUANDA, May 3
(AFP) - The death toll from the outbreak of the Ebola-like Marburg virus in Angola has reached 280, most of whom succumbed to the disease in the northern Uige province, the health ministry and the World Health Organisation said late Monday.

Of the 280 dead, 269 were in Uige province and a further 208 people are under medical observation in that region after coming into contact with an infected person, a statement from the ministry and the WHO said.

There have been a total of 313 cases detected of the Marburg virus since monitoring of the outbreak, the worst ever recorded, began on October 13, it added.

The Ebola-like Marburg virus can kill a healthy person in a week, causing diarrhoea and vomiting followed by severe internal bleeding.

Its exact origin is unknown and there is no cure. The virus spreads through contact with bodily fluids such as blood, excrement, vomit, saliva, sweat and tears, but can be contained with relatively simple hygenic precautions, according to experts.

Angolan health officials have stressed that corpses present a very high risk of contamination as burial rituals often involve touching the deceased to bid farewell.

Deputy Health Minister Jose Van Dunem told journalists that a health team traveled to the village of Ngombe, 150 kilometers (95 miles) north of the city of Uige, on Sunday and were told that a woman who had attended the funeral of a relative in Uige had spread the virus to the village.

"When she returned to Ngombe, she contaminated 12 other members of her family and they all died," said Van Dunem.

A traditional healer who treated many patients sick with Marburg in a town outside of Uige has also died from the haemorraghic fever, he added.

No new cases of the Marburg virus have been detected outside the province.

Results from a blood test on a suspected case of Marburg in nearby Malange province were negative, he said.

The Marburg virus was discovered in 1967 when German laboratory workers in a town of the same name were infected by monkeys from Uganda.

Until now the most serious outbreak of the disease had been in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where 123 people died between 1998 and 2000.
