For the life of me I cannot remember the type of animal (type of live stalk) that is in the photo. But, they are actually as well known as the Prison (federal pen). - FMC
This actually a distance photo, from a viewing deck, as you can see far away, again, this is the "Big House" the Federal Penitentiary. - FMC
This is the image scene from the observation deck. - FMC
Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. - FMC
It is my belief that up behind the hill is the cemetery. I will need to do some research to verify. Otherwise this hill looks over the Federal Penitentiary. - FMC
As I had mentioned before the old United States Disciplinary Barracks have been brought down, this is the new facility. I had often referred to it as a college campus, but, frankly it is just a lot of cement. - FMC
Just as I took the photo I saw this plaque. It is next to the barb wire separating the prison from the actual installation. - FMC
I have a feeling this was the farm where they grew crops and raised live stalk. They still have ton's of sheep, go figure. - FMC
Another view of the new military prison. - FMC
Military Cemetery
While I took many photo's at this site I am not enclosing all of them. I am including my web site should you want to see the rest of the cemetery photo's. - FMC
Plaque by the entrance of the old cemetery. - FMC
While I would not go out seeking this spot, those who were condemned many years ago, actually have a nice resting place. The weeping willow is magnificent. - FMC
USDB cemetery. - FMC
First stone I came upon. - FMC
I am actually enclosing this one, because I like the angle and final result. - FMC
Another angle of the USDB cemetery. - FMC
German POW grave marker. - FMC

The German headstones are all the way at the back of the cemetery. - FMC
I believe this is the last one to be buried at this site. - FMC
The old "United States Disciplinary Barracks", it is currently being demolished but they were kind enough to give me access to what is still standing. -FMC
Entrance. - FMC
I cannot describe this in a way that convey's the depth of this prison into the earth. It is deep, indeed. - FMC
Watch towers. - FMC
Other watch towers. - FMC
I took this one because I thought it odd, to have just the top stoop with all the barb wire and not the rest of the stairwell. - FMC
Directorate of Programs and Services. - FMC
This is image shows the building that held the health center and dentistry office. To the left of the building (not shown) the barber shop. - FMC
Evidently they still do use this as a current job in the prison (embroidery).. - FMC
Where JAG was housed. - FMC
Have to tell you I am not sure what the purpose of the sunroom at the back of the building was for. - FMC
This is the first of 2 images, showing how vast the Prison was in it's day. - FMC
This is the same image as above only I zoomed and you can see the watch towers. - FMC
Installation and furniture repair and Parole and Classification - FMC
The rocks you see to the left, along side the prison, is the actual rock that was used when the prison was first constructed, inmates putting it one on top of the other, real hard time for sure. - FMC
Another entrance to the old prison - FMC
This the other side of the above sun room photo, who knows what it was used for. - FMC

I really must tell you, those who commit horrific crimes were punished when they were sent here, now they live in a new facility only 4 years old. The old place had no decent air conditioning frankly just OLD.
So, Hasan Akbar, will not suffer, he will not do hard time, he will sit on his butt waiting for his sentence to be carried out. As I had said when they were moving the inmates to the new facility they had said the most violent and those on death row would be housed at another facility I will find out the correct facts as it pertains to this issue.
I hope I gave you a glimpse into a bit of military history.
You can go to my web site and look at all my photo's if you like.

Could not resist adding a photo of one of our beloved Keeshonds. Marble, our spoiled pup, who loves the wind in his fur.
Hey friends, with military trials in the news, I thought I would take a drive and shoot some photo's of the old prison on Leavenworth, the new one and photos of various buildings.
While, it is much better to see them in person, I hope I did some justice to the historical side and took the image.
Anyway, hope you enjoy my outing yesterday!
None of the photos are loading for me. (Unless Leavenworth is a series of buildings designed to look like red X's ;-)
Those are the purtiest red X's in all of Kansas. :-D
Let me know if you are unable to see them at the Kodak gallery.
Dang it was little bit of work, formatting and giving descriptions only to not show up on the FR site.
These photos do not show after initial loading but if I right click and select view image, they individually appear. Don't know what the posting problem is though...
I do not know, I am terribly sorry to those who have taken the time to check out the thread and those that will follow when I hit preview they showed up so I thought all was kosher.
Guess not.
Thanks for the comment.
Truly a facinating gallery of image not displayed.
Same here.
It certainly was not my intent to post and have nothing to show for it.
Has anyone decided to go to the Kodak site with the link to see if you can view the photo's?
I think you would have enjoyed the photo's I hope to find some way to correct the problem.
Hmm... weird. After I went to the website and backspaced to this page, they all just popped up en masse. Nice pics, though ! It's unfortunate that they're demolishing the old sections (are all of those buildings slated for the wrecking ball ?).
Relax. I don't even know how to post an image myself.
My HTML is OK but one of my teachers told me "Just because you see it in your browser doesn't mean everyone else does"
Sorry for the offense I promise to beat myself with a wet noodle before retiring.
Cheers
I am tickled pink that you can see the photo's. Yes, your observation is correct "en masse" I did take many photo's to give the viewer a flavor of the environment.
Actually, the pictures of the buildings, the health center, and such, remain, beloved seems to think they will gut and renovate, who knows.
It had been called the Castle in the past, now only the watch towers exist.
Folks have been stealing the rock's for various reason, as it has a historical aspect to the rocks.
Again, thanks, glad you could see them.
Well, I am glad to hear that. As I said they are housed at the Kodak web site. I have also added the photo's to my profile pagae, perhaps they will show there?
Why, no idea, but giving it my best effort.

I hope to go by Leavenworth either this year or next and take a look at what's left. Thanks again for the pics (I liked the one of the gravemarker with the light shining across it in the darkness - it's often difficult to take pics of those headstones on a sunny day without the shots ending up overexposed). I just went on a long trip to FL about 6 weeks ago and took 90 rolls of film (though haven't had 'em developed, yet), including several of the old forts from Pensacola all the way down to the very isolated and starkly beautiful Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas, some 3 hours west out of Key West (and north of Havana, Cuba). I'm crossing my fingers that those turned out OK.
Nam Vet
I will keep my finger's crossed as well. I really enjoy photography, moving around as I did, gave me a lot of subject matter.
Beloved saw the photo's of an old portfolio and thought I might enjoy a super duper camera, and I mean, with all the bells and whistles. I am a old fashion Pentax owner and love the camera.
Have to tell you, and thank you for the compliment on the cemetary marker photo's, that I took 70+ photo's, and only had to download to my computer and upload to the gallery for friends and family to enjoy.
While, I like to do everything manually, and this camera allows that, thankfully it took excellent photo's.
Might consider that, if you plan take a lot of rolls of film, you can almost buy a new camera for the amount.
I also offered advice to my mom, that when she drops her film off, she clicks the "CD" and a set of prints, she has the actual prints and the photo's to send through email and thankfully we guard them from any type of damage.
Perhaps you can scan a few photo's onto FR, sharing your travels?
Thanks again! - FMC
