Sex offender freed from prison Man's request to be castrated led to state law (TX)

Larry Don McQuay, a child molester whose requests to be castrated prompted the Legislature to make Texas the only state to permit the practice, was released from prison with little fanfare this morning and escorted to San Antonio. It's unknown whether he's been castrated.

Fitted with an ankle monitoring device, McQuay was transferred at 7:15 a.m. to a work release program in Bexar County, where he was convicted, said Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons. McQuay will remain under mandatory supervision until July 31, 2016.

She said prison officials arranged for a two-vehicle caravan to transport the high-profile offender "for his safety.'' McQuay left prison eight years into a 20-year sentence because his time served and "good behavior" met state requirements for release under mandatory supervision, said Mike Viesca of the Department of Criminal Justice.

In 1995, McQuay told Houston-based victims rights group Justice For All that he would kill his next victim if he wasn't castrated, group president Dianne Clements said. At the time, the group entered into a contract with McQuay to find a surgeon willing to perform the operation.

I'd think they tend to lean more conservative, with the wwhole justice and law and order thing.

It is a liberal myth, created by UGA professor Susan Brownmiller, that sex crimes are about "power"

It's not entirely myth, and it's not that simple. Violent rape is the prduct of a deviant sex drive in which sex, violence and domination are inseparable. Your basic pont is dead on: Take away the sex drive, and you take away the motivation for the crime.

What do you reccommend for punishment?

I don't know, it seemed like you were recommending your 3 strike rule to sexual offenders that were not rapist or child molesters? Without knowing all the crimes that could make you a sex offender I would think it would be best to charge each crime individually and make the punishments for each crime as harsh as they should be. Three strike rules should just be for baseball. Or at least that is the way I see it.

Sorry I forgot to mention. MY three strikes does allow for EXXTREMELY extenuating circumstances. If a person is found to be a scumbag pervert offender as opposed to, I don't know, accidental exposure/touching or mental disabilities, then 3 strikes apply.

Personally I like 3 strikes. Great deterrence and ensure that certain criminals won't be back out on the streets. But like most things, it still needs to be seen on a case by case basis.

If you took the time to read my original post, you'd know.
