Larry Don McQuay, a child molester whose requests to be castrated prompted the Legislature to make Texas the only state to permit the practice, was released from prison with little fanfare this morning and escorted to San Antonio. It's unknown whether he's been castrated.
Fitted with an ankle monitoring device, McQuay was transferred at 7:15 a.m. to a work release program in Bexar County, where he was convicted, said Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons. McQuay will remain under mandatory supervision until July 31, 2016.
She said prison officials arranged for a two-vehicle caravan to transport the high-profile offender "for his safety.'' McQuay left prison eight years into a 20-year sentence because his time served and "good behavior" met state requirements for release under mandatory supervision, said Mike Viesca of the Department of Criminal Justice.
In 1995, McQuay told Houston-based victims rights group Justice For All that he would kill his next victim if he wasn't castrated, group president Dianne Clements said. At the time, the group entered into a contract with McQuay to find a surgeon willing to perform the operation.

"God help our children"
You said it, Buster.
I just sent an email to the principal of the elementary school that's near the majority of the offenders.
I found this on one of the TV stations websites that I;m sending emails to.
THE PREDATOR NEXT DOOR
A News Station Investigation outrages parents and prompts action at the Dallas Courthouse.
Several judges have already taken action after FOX4 discovered more than 500 registered sex offenders with addresses dangerously close to schools.
Texas has a child safety zone law, but our investigation found that law doesn't apply to all registered sex offenders.
For instance, certain offenses, like solicitation of a minor, are excluded from the law. Sex offenders currently on probation that started before 2003 are exempt and sex offenses that don't involve children are also excluded.
The law, however, does allow a judge to modify the court conditions and prohibit a sex offender from living within a thousand feet of a school.
"We've got little kids walking home from school. That honestly scares me," said one parent whose children attend F.D. Moates Elementary in South Dallas.
Charles Patterson, a registered sex offender, lives across the street from Moates.
Court records show Patterson pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 16 year-old girl in 2000, but because he started his probation before the new rule took effect, Patterson is not violating the law.
After hearing of our report, Patterson's judge, Faith Johnson ordered him to move within 90 days.
FOX4 analyzed the state registered sex offender database and used a computer mapping program to find the registered sex offenders living near schools in Dallas County.
Our map put a radius of two-tenths of a mile, about a thousand feet, around sex offender addresses.
Of the four-thousand mapped, we found 520, about thirteen percent, have registered addresses within that radius from schools. Sixty-eight percent of those committed sex crimes against children.
"One of the reasons we put child safety zones in place was because we know someone who has offended a child has a propensity to offend again," said State Senator Florence Shaprio. "So one of the things we felt was absolutely imperative was to not let them near children."
The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault says parents need to speak up. "I think as parents our job is to be loud," said Annette Burrhus-Clay. "Our job is to do whatever we need to do to protect our kids. I think those parents have every right to make as much noise as they possibly can and ask for answers and demand answers."
After learning of our report, Judge Karen Greene says she modified the sex offenders on probation in her court to conform to the new one-thousand foot rule. Judge Lana McDaniel modified one sex offender's terms in her court so he is not allowed to be outside when children are going to or from school.
If you want more information about sex offenders, you can log onto the Texas Department of Public Safety website at www.txdps.state.tx. us or contact your local police dept.

Type in my zip code: 77340
You'll be shocked at how many are here....
Then you'll realize they are safely taken care off!

This is what's living near my folks.
On the site I just posted, look at zip 76126.
They don't look safely taken care of to me. Looks like a tragedy waiting to happen.
Did you click on all those offenders??? All the ones I clicked on are out!!! Parole, probation or discharged! Incredible.
"Larry Don McQuay, a child molester..."
I stopped right there. I don't care if he has a castration, amputation, and a lobotomy, he should have been dead. Let God sort him out.
Damn straight and we wouldn't have to waste any money on ankle bracelets either. And if they want to release these scum bags early I say forget the bracelets. Tattoo what these POS did on their face so we all know who they are.
I don't like three strike systems for anything. The punishment should fit the crime in the first place. Such punishments wouldn't be bad for rapists and child molesters. That is if we had DNA proof such offenses occurred. You know I would want to be 100% sure. But I might have problems with them doing it for other sexual offensives. Not all sex crimes are equal. In short we should take each crime by a case by case basis and punish the offenders accordingly.
What do you reccommend for punishment?
IMO, you hurt a child in a sexual way, you die.
Agreed. And if you rape, you die too.
I agree, why is capital punishment reserved only for cases of homicide. Capital punishment needs to be applied much more liberally if it is to serve as a true deterrent.
Well, don't talk to the cops about it, the one I talked to was very quick to tell me that those offenders living near children had every right to be there.
I quoted her when I sent the emails to the newspaper and tv stations. Hope she sees it.
I wonder if the majority of cops lean left, right, or are centered.
I don't know. On the one hand, there are cops on FR who seem bent on doing whatever they want to whomever they want. Then I have that hateful witch that I talked to today that was clearly on the side of the sex offender, so who knows.
