The people of Vietnam had been at war with each other and their neighbors for about 300 years before we became involved.

I believe that LBJ looked at the war as just another situation to be manipulated for political benefit and the greater glory Lyndon B. Johnson. Unfortunately for him, it was his political downfall.

Yep! He had less than a year to get the Warren Commission Report finished, the Civil Rights legislation passed, and to create a phony crisis in the Tonkin Gulf. All, in a successful diversionary attempt to get elected in his own right.

The scumbag won those battles, but lost the war anyway.
