TV evangelist Joyce Meyer and her family have received millions in salary and benefits from her worldwide ministry in recent years, according to newly released records.

The documents, obtained by the Post-Dispatch under Missouri's Open Records laws, provide the first public look at how the worldwide broadcasting and publishing empire has compensated Meyer and her family.

They paint a picture of a minister and her family who have reaped large financial rewards from the ministry they created and control. Over 20 years, Joyce Meyer Ministries of Fenton has grown to a $90 million-a-year empire with TV and radio programs that reach millions of people in about 70 countries.

Among the details included in the financial statements, board minutes and other documents Meyer provided to the assessor of Jefferson County in a dispute over the tax-exempt status of its headquarters property:

The ministry's board of trustees, which is headed by Joyce Meyer, agreed to pay her a $900,000 annual salary in 2002 and 2003.

The board agreed to give her husband, Dave Meyer, the board's vice president, an annual salary of $450,000 in each of those same two years.

Do you ever wonder why the Holy Spirit reveals all these maladies being healed to Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, etc., but He can never manage to tell the "healers" the name and city of the person being healed? Gee, I wonder why.

You left out my favorite one in which Benny tells Paul Crouch that one day, people are going place coffins containing their loved ones in front of the television, and the power of the TBN broadcast is going to raise them from the dead out of those coffins.

Why in the world do people continue to send these frauds their hard-earned money? I will never understand it.

But if you are going to judge, at least make it Biblical. No women preachers.

The ultimate goal of being CHRISTIAN while alive is to be HEALTHY and WEALTHY!

Jesus speaks of this.

Care to cite that in Scripture?

While you waste your time looking for something that even remotely might be twisted into scriptural support, ponder this:

Hebrews 11:36 Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— 38 of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

What did they do without Joyce Meyer?

Click the image for a view of the family compound.

These plastic-haired, fake-religion snakefondlers live pretty well, don't they?

Yes, many, many times her words have healed my soul. Way, way deeper than I can ever explain.

....same here.

Joyce Meyer was abused by her father as a child, with God's help, she learned to forgive him and even supports him in his old age.

I was abused by a brother 5 years older than myself and listening to her on TV and listening to her tapes has helped me forgive him.

I will Thank her everyday for that!

Re: Meyer's compound

Wow, that's quite a spread. Looks like an Olympic sized pool, the garage - if that's what it is - looks like an airport hangar. And the house itself seems comparable to what Bill Gates has. I never realized what kind of money she was bringing in.

And now she abuses and fleeces millions, so the universal karma balances out.

I always liked her. Don't see much difference in where people CHOOSE to send their money.....televangelist, church, websites, charity.

In my opinion, the really disastrous thing about TV Christianity is that unbelievers see that and they think that IS Christianity; that's a big reason why so many people hate evangelical Christianity. Rightly or wrongly, they see it as intrinsically bound up with phony TV preachers. Despite the testimony of some people on this thread, I thick televangelism has been a disaster for Christianity.

Excellent point. Some like Hinn would probably get indicted for fraud pretty quick. And what does that say about our application of Biblical standards when these guys continue as they do?

If Paul were alive today, he'd be storming the TBN set.

"I always liked her."

That's why they are called con men. They ARE likeable; if they weren't, no one would give them their money. They are entertainers, and even people who aren't fooled by them can often see why they appeal to people. Many of them have genuine charisma, but there is nothing spiritual or holy about it; it is the charisma of the entertainer and showman, not the charisma of the Holy Spirit. These people are brilliant entertainers, often much better than the actors on regular TV.

No, the ones who support him are those dumb enough to send this moneygrubbing fraud what's left of their earnings after the government gets its hands on it.

But I've always grudingly admired those who can do the P.T. Barnum flimflam schtick with a straight face. I couldn't do it - that's real acting.

Great minds think alike; my post beat you by 3/100ths of a second, but we had the same idea. These people are good, very good, at what they do.

Joyce Meyers doesn't ask for donations, or tithing to her organization. She does teach about tithing as being biblical - but never says "send it to ME." She's a lot like Dr. Phil - - "read my books, buy my tapes..." That's how she makes her money, along with donations.

So how much money should an author and public speaker make?

I agree with you, she probably should NOT be tax exempt (doesn't that leads us in to some murky territory in judging exempt status?)

I deliberately sought to post a few with accompanying audio so they could be heard straight from the horse's mouth.

Some of them are truly astounding, aren't they. The one that really gets me isn't a prophecy but a proclamation, the one where he curses anyone who would dare come against his ministry. Yeah, that's Biblical.

"In your opinion."

I didn't start out hoping or assuming these people are frauds. It would be nice if Benny Hinn were really healing all these people, and it would be nice if Joyce Meyer were merely helping people with their problems and accepting a modest financial reward for her services. But facts are facts; some of these people have been investigated, and some ARE fraudulent, some ARE taking in exorbitant amounts of money, often under deceptive pretexts. And I think it's terrible that for millions of people, these frauds are the only side of Christianity that some people will ever know.
