Mexican TV Actress Dies After Seeing Gun
MEXICO CITY - A Mexican television actress died on Friday of a heart attack after a man armed with a pistol approached her vehicle on a Mexico City street, officials said.
Mariana Levy, 39, featured on the "Nuestra Casa" show on the Televisa network, developed labored breathing after seeing the weapon, said prosecutor Carlos Gurrea.
Her husband, Jose Maria Fernandez Jr., drove her to a nearby clinic where she died, Gurrea said, quoting Fernandez.
A man was arrested and later identified by Levy's husband as the man who approached the vehicle, in which the couple was taking several children to a local amusement park.
Gurrea said the suspect who was being held on suspicion of illegal weapons possession did not apparently directly threaten or make any contact with Levy.
He said the mere shock of seeing him approach the vehicle apparently triggered the attack.
The death shook the Mexican entertainment world. It was one of the highest-profile deaths in Mexico's persistent wave of common crime since television comedian Francisco "Paco" Stanley was gunned down alongside a Mexico City freeway in 1999.
"We cannot feel anything other than an enormous rage and indignation," Televisa news anchor Adela Micha said of Levy's death. "Even if a bullet didn't kill her, the fear and the lack of public safety did."
Has anybody seen Ashton Kucher ?
This is not Tragic. It's Pathetic.
I wonder if she was afraid of the gun, or the guy holding the gun. If she had seen the gun just lying on the street, minding it's own business, would she still have had a heart attack?
Ive heard of pampered wimps, but this is ridiculous. Maybe it was drugs and her husband just blamed it on seeing a weapon?
(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
"This is not Tragic. It's Pathetic."
It is probably more than just seeing a handgun that did her in. I would surmise the actress had put more than a gram or two of cocaine in her nose before the incident.
Order the chalupa.
Good point.
The activity usually occurs at the opposite end of the torso.
Marlin .22, right?
I saw this on Friday, a very sad story, she had an 8-month old daughter in addition to two other kids.
There have been horrible kidnappings of the rich and famous in Mexico City. That is what probably came to mind, and the thought of that, frightened her to death.
I'm sorry the woman is gone, but there is something a little bit funny about a person dropping dead at the mere sight of something dangerous. It's something I'd expect a chihuahua to do.
Wow.
I think it's time to start watching Spanish TV.
Very true. If you are rich in Mexico, you are a definate target of kidnappers, I understood she even had a bodyguard when the incident occured. Mexico is just plain bad news. Most of the big Mexican stars now live in the US, legally, of course.
That's what it looks like. I've got one that my mom handed down on my 13th birthday.
Evidently you've never been around a chihuahua too much. Just like short guys, little dogs always act like they've got something to prove. A chihuahua would have run in there and bit the guy on the ankles!
