Harpers mag ran a long piece, I gather, articulating the theory that the GOP is infested with some sort of theocratic strain that threatens to impose Old Testament law.

I've seen throw-away comments like that from leftists for several years now, but I guess the Harpers article and a recent New York conference really started to put meat on the bones of this rather standard lefty attack.

So, I guess I'm wondering...what the hell? Are leftists this loony tunes? Or is there a more sinister agenda afoot? Kurtz seems to be arguing that this equation of mainstream, conservative, orthodox Christians with Dominionists is a deliberate (and dangerous) attempt to re-marginalize Christians in the political sphere.

I'm starting to get a little concerned, like Kurtz, and wonder if others here either share that concern or remain sanguine about this development on the left. I mean, look folks, they're using this equation to advocate a "no holds barred" politics towards conservatives of a religious mindset. What that means in practice reamins to be seen, but it doesn't sound like a foundation for an outreach program to orthodox believers.

Ping for comments. Really, am I nuts to be concerned about this?

You forgot that the Religious Right wants to club baby seals, push old people down stairs, and sell Tiny Tim's crutch for firewood. Oh, and drill for oil at Disney World.

I think the lefties are going to shoot themselves in the foot. Toss a far-out conspiracy into the mix, and whoever tosses it is dead meat.

It's picked up enough steam among leftists that an article about Dominionism branded D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church as a "Dominionist" in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone. I think that's cause for some concern, even if RS isn't exactly "fair and balanced" with the political views displayed on its pages.

Lefties have been looking for an excuse to silence the Right for years. Just read Marcuse to get an idea of where these dirty little fascists are coming from and how far they're willing to go.

What radical utopian Left is looking for is all-out war - against you and me. Now there's a classic illustration of 'be careful what you ask for.'

I think you have a good point, the level of intolerance by the left for those of Christian belief is rising.

I am wondering how long it will be before one of them declares a "zero tolerance" policy for Christians and then proceeds to memorialize this policy in practice and law (as is being attempted on a daily basis in lesser forms now).

Once this happens in one state, others will follow.

This will just mean that they will seal their permanent minority status. It will further alienate most US citizens from the democratic party as it becomes more and more obvious that the moonbats are in charge.

Yes I'm concerned. But this sort of insanity is mainstream liberal "thought." They're just playing around with some new terminology, but they've been saying this sort of stuff for a long time.

we can confront Christian evil by setting aside “the old polite rules of democracy.”

This part sounds like an appeal and justification for thugs and street gangs.

[ What is the real agenda of the religious far Right? I’ll tell you what it is. These nuts want to take over the federal government and suppress other religions through genocide and mass murder, rather than through proselytizing. They want to reestablish slavery. They want to reduce women to near-slavery by making them property, first of their fathers, and then of their husbands. They want to execute anyone found guilty of pre-martial, extramaritial, or homosexual sex. They want to bring back the death penalty for witchcraft. ]

LoL..........
Socialism IS slavery by government...

Kurtz is overcome by this Apocalypse; "the HORROR, the HORROR".. and is pointing away to something else from the real slavery at our feet and on our ballots.. Socialism.. and Social'ists..

And the RUSE is noted..

YES!!! THIS IS ALL TRUE!!! Don't you remember when John Ashcroft told George Bush that "dancing was of the devil" and then George Bush commanded that anyone who had ever listened to the radio or bought a CD would have to go to jail?

Don't you remember that? It REALLY HAPPENED!!!

I read this on the INTERNET!!!!

It is true!!!

Meanwhile, the lefties all want us to embrace Islam, a religion that really is out to enslave the rest of us. Go figure.

The Left Runs Wild with a Theory

The left thinks "religion is the opiate of the masses". They've been running with that for 100 years.
