Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards' presidential ambitions are being taken seriously by Washington insiders. Not as seriously as those of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. But seriously.
The National Journal surveyed 90 Democratic members of Congress, consultants, activists and party officials to name the five people they thought had the best chance of capturing their party's nomination in 2008.
By far, the Democrats named Clinton, the New York senator and former first lady.
But Edwards came in second, followed by Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.
The same survey also asked 85 Republican insiders which GOP figures had the best chance for the nomination.
Topping the list were Sen. George Allen of Virginia, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Edwards, meanwhile, continues to move around the country. Last week he spoke to a group of black mayors in Columbus, Ohio, and he spoke to a crowd of 700 at the South Texas College of Law in Houston.
I do get nostalgic for the Breck girl
Did anyone else notice that Edwards is a finalist on the Discovery Channel for the 100 Greatest Americans of ALL TIME?
What the heck did this empty-suit airhead ever do? Anytime people are praising him I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone.
During the debates he can brag about the faculty meeting presentations he has done, his strong command of powerpoint and his crafting of a mission statement.
Contender for what? Birdbrain Of The Year? Ah, well, Kerry won it last year, I suppose it's Silky Pony's turn....
Speaking of Losers.
I'm completely convinced that Al Gore is going to run in 2008.
As Hillary dances to the center, Gore is going to run left and pull the fringe with him.
It's going to be a very interesting primary.
I was feeling bad about the Republican Party not having a bona fide back-up in the bull pen warming up to take over for Bush, BUT
Now that I see the dems list and the previous article on this tread about Kerry, I don't feel bad anymore--I think it will be a hoot watching all of these "candidates" beat each other up trying to position themselves as the frontrunners in 2008!!!
Sit back and pop the corn!
Oh some of the people they have there are pathetic. Its like they put anybody who was in the news in that group.
I'm very worried about that. If we don't get someone sooner rather than later we will lose the election. Just being a real conservative is NOT enough lately. Now we need STAR POWER!
Geez ... I can't make up my mind for whom to cast my vote; DeGeneres or Castro. /sarc.

Wasn't he just recently quoted as saying that if Kerry runs again He Won't run??? As far as I know, Kerry IS running in 2008.
He is so pretty! even the lesbians want to date him.
Edwards is a political light-weight.
I want to see Edwards' "laying on of hands" trick again.
Thanks for the heads up on the John Kerry plans to run again...I went in search of the latest John Kerry news pic, and it is on this thread. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1395173/posts
BTW, did you notice who was NOT on the list ... Kerry
Hahahahaha
Oh you are quite welcome. He's just a Girlie Man!
