I never thought I'd EVER agree with David Korn, but I do. While parts of the speech were funny, even very funny and well delivered, it was over the top for the wife of a president we elected at least partly for a change from Clinton-era moral slimepit. I have always liked Mrs. Bush, but she has slipped considerably in my opinion of her. It's telling that the people who most liked her humor was the Hollywood people there who recognize their own way of looking at the world.
It was a serious mistake. She surrendered her heretofore wholesome image before the entire world.
The jokes do not offend me.....that they came from Laura Bush does. This fiasco is NO WAY the equivalent of Barbara Bush's occasional humorous denigration of her own husband.
She made a terrible mistake.
They were jokes and they were funny.
In the end she gave an emotional tribute to her wonderful husband and said how much she loved him.
She delivered these mildly bawdy, but humorous in their complete absurdity, jokes with flawless comic timing.
It was not disturbing.........it was hilarious!
What did she say that was over the top? Do you know if there is a transcript anywhere?
Well spoken. And those that continue to state on this thread "Well Whoopi said this...." need to remember Whoopi is not the First Lady (thankfully). Some of these jokes were indeed over the line to be said by Mrs. Bush
Did you watch the entire thing? There was nothing in the routine that I wouldn't have watched with my grandmother.
The most risque part of the show was the horse joke. Anybody that grew up on a farm heard that joke from the time they were about 3.
This was a very funny routine and hats off to our First Lady for a fantastic delivery.
I have always liked Mrs. Bush, but she has slipped considerably in my opinion of her.
Harummph!!!!
I see the usual suspects have shown up to bash Christians. While I did watch the show and laughed out loud, I must say that if Hillary or any Dem. wife of the Pres., had said some of the things Laura said, many of us would be saying things like, "typical Dem. behavior, trashy, etc...". Even some of the usual suspects who like to bash Christians.
I have no problem with people disagreeing about the show. Some will like it, (I know Hollywood loved it!!), some won't like it. But I get so sick and tired of the Christian bashing.
if you let a sense of humor change your opinion of Mrs Bush... good for you!!!
I saw the speech. She was great and funny. Her smile was genuine, her fondness for George obvious and the best part was a side by side comparison with Hildebeast's occasional quips.
The folks that got their knickers in a knot about Laura need to get a freeking life. The hypocrisy is so blatant and the faux shock is so dishonest that I feel yesterdays dinner coming up as a 4 alarm hurl alert....
for all the others
You might want to take up onion sucking if your that bothered.
Untwist your panties already! The joke about the city dude trying to milk a male horse is as old as the hills in flyover country, and it's not considered risque. I grew up in Wisconsin where milking is common. Horror upon horrors, it involved the manipulation of an animal's mammaries! If you think this risque, I trust you have the dignity to avoid consuming dairy products.
The press violates the spirit of this event with each and every story they file on this. The only outcome will be this dinner not happening next year because apparently sense of humor and backyard BBQ banter has become political territory. I can't wait for the question in the next presidential debate... "would you or do you tell off color jokes in the company of adults at a roast?"
