It was a serious mistake. She surrendered her heretofore wholesome image before the entire world.

The jokes do not offend me.....that they came from Laura Bush does. This fiasco is NO WAY the equivalent of Barbara Bush's occasional humorous denigration of her own husband.

She made a terrible mistake.

The sky is not falling and Laura Bush proved that she's funny. I'm sorry you were offended, but I'm glad you're in the minority.

ROTFLOL. So now she's a wench? geez-lou-frickin-weez. Get over it. Or don't. Let it fester inside of you. Either way, Laura Bush is the same person she has always been, only now, more people know about her rather funny side.

I'm very glad to see that other conservatives have some discernment.

I agree with you. There are ways to be funny without taking a walk down the 'anything about sex is funny' path.

President Bush does it all the time, as did his Mom, and countless others prior to 1970.

... She made a terrible mistake.

She did wonderfully! Her demeanor toward her hubby, her innocent delivery, the embarrassed blush, et-al, made a huge leap with the middleground. She was already beloved, still is, but her and hubby are more human, and, most importantly, she distanced the administration from the needlebutts. They recognize how badly the needlebutt caricature hurts our cause.

She made a terrible mistake.

Maybe in your eyes, but then you are in the what? .000001% of the American population who don't have a sense of humor?

She made a terrible mistake.

^^

I would not call it a terrible mistake, but I felt that it was inappropriate for the First Lady to talk this way.

I think this speech will cause grave doubts among many Bush supporters from now on. Count me as one. Bush Sr. was definitely a conservative liberal. I thought W. and his wife were not so patrician and cynical, but they are worse.

Clinton left the dignity of presidential office in shreds, but Bush and his wife just laugh and say, "What dignity?" No wonder the Big Lug travels with Bush senior. Why shun such a nice guy? He got away with it all!

The logic of most posts escapes me. The milking story is an old one, so it was OK, even hilarious. It's easy to explain that one to a child. Really? Prime time humor. I thought the challenge of humor was to be funny without being gross or x-rated. Anyone can get shocked laughs from sophomoric humor.

We all use the bathroom, so why not have a few outhouse jokes at the next big dinner? Farmer's daughter jokes would be great, according to a host of Freepers, I surmise.

The dinner reminded me of the end of Animal House. I can't tell the GOP from the Democrats.
