WASHINGTON (AP) -- First lady Laura Bush stole the show with a surprise comedy routine that ripped President Bush and brought an audience that included much of official Washington and a dash of Hollywood to a standing ovation at a dinner honoring award-winning journalists.
The president began a speech late Saturday at the 91st annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, but was quickly "interrupted" by his wife in an obviously planned ploy.
"Not that old joke, not again," she said to the delight of the audience. "I've been attending these dinners for years and just quietly sitting there. I've got a few things I want to say for a change."

I am proud that my daughter will one day be attending Laura W. Bush Elementary School in Austin :)
Mrs Bush is a first-class lady
And you could tell that W was setting it up from the beginning.
Fine comedy? The first lady telling whore jokes to the national press? Say again?
So cool! Sorry I missed the broadcast. Love this first lady, she's awesome!
Wonder if Hillary! could ever pull something like this off?
It seems like only yesterday, but Don Imus' 1996 roast of Clinton was a hard act to beat.
It feel so good to have good decent people in the Whitehouse! Makes you proud to be an American again.
I didn't feel that way with the Clinton's in there. But I sure do feel proud with President and Mrs Bush there.
Puffy faced, bug-eyed shrew.
Cedric mentioned that he passed a Secret Service security check. The good news - he has no prostrate problems. Pretty darn funny evening...
I know quite a few "first class ladies," but I can't imagine one of them making a Chippendales joke. This was first class pandering to the gutter ethics of the national press corps.
She was soooo funny last night. Really good timing, and the jokes were an absolute riot.
a real 'babe'
franken was there this year.....so was hanoi jane fonda

And a First Lady with class.
My mother was a very first class lady. When I was getting married, we had a girl's party planned for the night before, me, my best girlfriend and my two sisters. Mom was a first class lady, but she often got her words wrong - she asked me if we were going to have the "Clydesdales" at my bridal shower, intending to say Chippendales. She was kidding, and her malaprop made it all the more hilarious.
I think you should lighten up a little.
Nobody thinks that she went to Chippendale's. That's part of what makes the joke funny.
To the rest of us.
Oh please. The reason it was so damn funny is that we knew it wasn't even close to true.
Fournier was the guy who lied in print about the applause -- just in case, anybody has forgotten.
