Motorist Shot on San Diego Freeway in North Hills

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An 18 year-old motorist on the San Diego (405) Freeway was shot three times today by a gunman in black Honda, police said.

A no-hits shooting occurred shortly afterward on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway near Hubbard Street.

The victim from the 405 went to the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, and police said his vital signs were stable, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Jeff Hart of the Devonshire Station.

The victim, whose name police refused to make public, told police he was shot on the northbound 405 between Roscoe Boulevard and Nordhoff Street, Hart said. The wounded driver pulled off the freeway and flagged down an officer at Devonshire Street and Balboa Boulevard about 1:10 a.m., he said.

Five people were in the suspect car, the victim told police.

The car-to-car shooting was latest in a recent rash.

On April 24, a 33 year-old motorist was wounded on the northbound Costa Mesa (55) Freeway near 17th Street, near where Jake Tuason, 26, of Fontana, was fatally shot March 12.

Two other people were killed recently on the Harbor (110) Freeway in South Los Angeles.

Michael Livingston, 26, of Long Beach was shot in the head near Manchester Avenue on March 29.

On April 13, James Wiggins, 47, was shot near Redondo Beach Boulevard as he and another man were headed to a Bible study.

Ricky Smith, 32, of San Bernardino was shot to death at the 62-15-91 interchange in Riverside County on April 22.

A veteran California Highway Patrol supervisor with a background in freeway shooting investigations recently told the Daily News that the CHP and other agencies repeatedly asked Caltrans to use their traffic-monitoring cameras as crime surveillance tools.

Exactly what good will that do, when a murderous criminal sticks his pistol out of his window and caps you in the head, with .5 seconds of warning, IF that?

Okay. Just shut up and take it then.

Not to mention, packing heat is basically illegal in Cali.

Personally, I'd move.

By the the gang-banging spawn of illegal aliens. Some are American born so can never be evicted. Some gang bangers are illegal aliens and love the stupid Americans who tolerate their presence

"John & Ken (from KFI) are up there today doing the protest of the billboard. I'll lay you ODDS that they mention this latest shooting."

Have either they or Michelle Malkin ever gotten passed the law enforcement/ media blackout on the legal status of the train derailer, Juan Manuel Alvarez?

that's going on all over.

for example, dallas tx.

it was more common in the 80's and early 90's and then it dropped off for awhile.

in scottsdale, az about 10 years ago a mexican gang robbed and shot a college kid, who was saving money to go to nau, at a sandwich shop. they could have just robbed him, but chose instead to kill him. police thought the gang returned to ol' messico.

that's going on all over.

It's at its worst in sanctuary cities, like LA, where cops are forbidden to check legal status, even when they know the person was just deported a week ago.

This is pretty frightening. I drove the 110 quite a bit, until a few months ago. I also used the 210 to connect up with the 15. I can't drive at night, so when night falls, I'm in the house. If I need to go somewhere, I have someone drive me.

Hate crimes and gang initiation cannot be ruled out. As for me, I drive a nondescript car, with a little tiger in the back window that nods his head up and down. Now that's security!

Yeah, its starting to sound like one of your novels, Travis. Between this and the three hispanics killing a couple in Eugene it's been a busy weekend for Latino Gangs.

I'm thinking it (they) might be a tad out of our price range. It says "Call for pricing".

Not a good sign...

There are several mfgs. Just do the ol' google for armored vehicles. In fact MB is mfg. armored S Class cars for about 50K over sticker from Germany. And you can order a Lincoln Town Car armored from the factory too.

Heard on the radio coming home from my 50th high school reunion in Los Angeles this afternoon that there wasn't one shooting but 2 freeway shootings today.

January 23, 2003
Dearborn -- Ford Motor Co. said its Lincoln division will build bullet-resistant versions of the Town Car sedan to meet increased demand for armored vehicles.

The armored Town Cars will sell for about $140,000, with final pricing still to be determined, spokesman Mike Vaughn said. The world's second-largest automaker plans to start making the Lincoln Town Car Ballistic Protection Series cars in mid-2003. Vaughn didn't disclose the annual production plan.

Worldwide demand for armored version of passenger vehicles rose to 18,000 last year from 4,000 in 1995, Vaughn said. The armored Town Cars will have bullet-resistant ceramics, steel and fiber as well as run-flat tires. Ford has had net losses in the past two years and has said it wants to make more specialized versions of vehicles to increase sales and profit.

Ford will ship limousine versions of its Town Cars made at its Wixom, Michigan, plant to International Armoring Corp. in Ogden, Utah, where they will be equipped with armor and additional protection, Vaughn said.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker expects 70 percent of the cars will be sold in the U.S., he said. A regular Town Car sells for about $40,000. The Lincoln division sold 59,312 of the sedans last year, a decline of 11 percent from 2001.

Oh but wait a second...this is only supposed to happen if we allow law abiding citizens the right to concealed carry. Only then will our towns turn into the wild west with daily shootouts </sarcasm>
