AP - Fri Apr 29, 2:33 PM ET This undated illustration provided by Purdue News Service shows the 16-inch-wheel bicycle, designed by Scott S. Shim, assistant professor of visual and performing arts at Purdue University. The new bicycle design created at Purdue University could erase the need for parents to hold on to the back of a two-wheel bicycle as their child learns how to ride. The bike, called SHIFT, was created by Shim and two students. Their design topped 853 entrants from 56 countries to win the $15,000 first prize in the 9th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan. (AP Photo/Purdue News Service)

Cool. Looks expensive, though.

Cute model. I'd say give your child a folder bike and just raise the seatpost as he or she grows. You will never need to upgrade to an adult bike again.

Looks like it just rolled out of Michael Moore's garage.

As one who once took a Harley-Davidson Servicar around a turn on two wheels, this is nuts.
It will not steer like a bike, and has too narrow a wheelbase for a trike.
Someone's rugrat is going to get high-sided bigtime if this ever goes into production.
Nitwits!

If only John Kerry had this bike, he could have won.

If Michael Jackson had this trike he could have out ran those cops.

advantage of training wheels:
- cheap
- fits regular bike
- adjustable, as child gains confidence and riding skill
- removable

Yeah but teaching your kids to 'ride a bike'
is a great experience for both child and parent.

From an engineering viewpoint, it looks like it was designed by an artist.
Oh, wait; it WAS!
Detroit once had a disastrous phase when they let "design artists" dictate to the engineers, and this looks like moron of the same.
