CBS News for the Sixty Minutes II broadcast on Sept. 8, 2004 that used forged documents to attack President Bush's Texas Air National Guard service.
Eason Jordan, (now former) CNN chief news executive for his remarks at the World Economic Forum, Davos Switzerland, (reported) January 28, 2005 where he falsely accused the U.S. military of deliberately killing journalists.
The Boston Globe, for publishing a false story on April 13, 2005, by Barbara Stewart on a seal cub hunt in Canada that claimed the water turned red with blood as hundreds of baby seals were slaughtered. The hunt had been cancelled due to bad weather. As reported by Reuters.
Guiliana Sgrena, reporter for Il Manifesto, for falsely accusing the U.S. military of ambushing the vehicle taking her to the Baghdad airport and assassinating her escort, Italian intelligence officer Nicola Calipari, after she was released by terrorists. As reported by The Sunday Times, March 13, 2005.
Time magazine, in their issue published on April 17, 2005, for their funhouse distorted cover photo of Ann Coulter, and their grossly inaccurate description of a photo of a conservative satirical protest sign targeting liberal protesters as "blasting" Coulter in the same issue.
The Associated Press and Reuters for rushing to publish without verification a propaganda hoax complete with photo that an American soldier had been taken prisoner in Iraq. The 'soldier' turned out to be a toy doll.
ABC News and Nightline, for their broadcast on October 14, 2004 where the host, Ted Koppel, took the word of Vietnamese communists over the word of U.S. Navy officers and sailors regarding John Kerry's Silver Star winning 'performance.' Nightline story here. Transcript of Koppel-John O'Neill donneybrook here

Fahrenheit 911. A documentary full of lies and distortions, but it made Michael Moore a lot of money.

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
Kristinn do you remember the old show Laugh In from the 1960s? When someone really screwed up bad in the media or politics he was presented the "FICKLE FINGER OF FATE?" This would be a great award to be given to the winner.
Eason Jordan, the freak.
Great slate of nominees.
Breathless Dan Rather gets my vote for stating the TANG story was true after it was false (or something Kerryesque), and because it was so darn much fun watching him finish an implosion that began 24 years ago.
Gosh, you get here late and start finding all the good threads right away!! I haven't read it yet.
DC Chapter ping!
Please get your votes today (Saturday) ASAP.
- Edward Lee Pitts--relatively speaking, much ado about nothing, even though 'twas tacky journalism at best.
- BBC--I'd prefer to keep the focus on the US.
- AP and Reuters--embarrassing, but not the most dire screw up of the year.
- Time Magazine--Anne can handle herself just fine.
- The Daily Mirror--same as for BBC.
- Eason Jordon--although it made news, it wasn't a news story.
I can't even find 7 to toss. Good luck.
LOL, are we suppose to vote for the bat or for the girl?? Can I guess which one you'll vote for?
Heading to bed, been tired today. Ping me any new graphics you post!
Number 2 is AP/Reuters story with the GI Joe doll because it shows how gullible they are.
Number 3: Nightline in Vietnam. Thank goodness Koppell is leaving, because he should after that story.
Eason Jordan rates number 4 for undermining our soldiers.
And the Boston Globe rates number 5 just because they have two stories on the list.
I don't even count Michael Moore's trash as a documentary, let alone news. No recognition, good or bad for him. IMO
SOOOOO many good Faux's to choose from! I'm tending toward CBS and DanRather, as they deliberately used their position to tell lies to change an election - yet, to this day are in denial.
But tomorrow, morning, I will submit my 10.
CBS forgery.
Eason Jordan
Scott Lindlaw
NYTimes missing explosives story
NYTimes for soliciting only Republican criticism of other Republicans (i.e., wanted Livingston to attack Delay).
ABC News/Nightline disgraceful Koppel performance with John O'Neill
Air America
My last three votes are for three of my nominees, but somehow they weren't listed. Were my chads hanging? Here are those votes.
Lawrence O'Donnell for (1) his "creepy liar" performance against John O'Neill and (2) his ridiculous discussion of secession because his Dems can't win (except on the lame West Wing TV show).
WashPost and ABC News for their incredibly biased poll on the judicial nominations fight and the proposed GOP attempt to overcome Dem filibusters. Rush said the poll was not a push poll. "It was a push-up poll." Details here
http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2005/cyb20050426.asp
Carol Simpson of ABC News blaming dumb voters and Dixie (i.e., the former slave states) for electing Bush.
http://www.mrc.org/notablequotables/2004/nq20041122.asp
My vote:
1. CBS News - Texas Air National Guard memo
2. ABC News and Nightline - VCs over US vets
3. The New York Times - al caca malarkey
These first 3 stories are clearly an attempt to undermine a presidential candidate, especially the most severe being the TANG forgeries.
4. Eason Jordan - journalist hunting
5. The Boston Globe - porno atrocity
Blatant attempts to defame US troops, creating resentment in America and the world.
6. The Associated Press and Reuters - gi cody/undermine morale
When painting them as criminals don't work, resort to attacking America's love for soldiers. The John Adam icident becaused the news were breathless to report another soldier hold hostage and explain to us peons how Iraq is a quagmire and that this is all Bush's fault.
7. Scott Lindlaw and the Associated Press - GOP/Bush disrespect for the toon
8. Edward Lee Pitts - prop soldier with bs question
9. The New York Times - phony op eds
10. Time magazine - ann coulter distortion and mislabeling protesters
General slander. The first two are attempts to make the PResident and his cabinet look bad. The second is to creat perception against the GOP while the last is to create an image of Ms. Coulter as a freaky right winger extremist. The mislabelling was just awful journalism.
The following was rejected.
1. The BBC - hecklers
2. Guiliana Sgrena - assassination
3. The Daily Mirror - bs brit torture picts
4. Fahrenheit 911.
5. Air America
The WHC dinner is about US media. The first three are foreign while the last two are not media. In addition, the DeathScreamMedia clings feverishly to their lies about objectivity and balance. FartandHype 7/11 and AirFascism makes no such pretense.
6. The Boston Globe - seal hunt that never was
7. The Detroit Free Press and Mitch Albom - fake story re: NCAA game.
Poor journalism, no doubt. But not nearly as bad as the ten mentioned. Each of the 10 threaten and distort conservatism in their own way, sapping public support for conservative principles and leaving the public prey to the lies of the DSM and Demoncr@ps. These two stories does neither.
2. For its siding with the enemy and utter disrespect (yet again) for American ex-military, in their John Kerry Silver Star puff piece/Swiftboat Vets hit piece, they get my vote - a very close 2nd Place, in the Faux News Awards.
3. In the stupidity department, AP and Reuters should get their sign for falling so hard and so very fast for the "(Toy)Soldier Captured by Militants" story and photos.
4. As long as we're making fun of stupid photo editors, Time Magazine needs to be lauded for its room-temperature IQ geniuses who found that "Gotcha" pic of people protesting Ann Coulter. If only those picture people could read.
5. All the others nominees should be dropped into a large pit filled with cat vomit, and the first six who can manage to find their way out of that should be named lesser winners.
It's late, I have insomnia and not much patience for these idiots who arrogantly believe that they know better than us what news is best for us and when the truth should be witheld from us.
Next year, can we tar and feather the winners, Kristinn? Please?

Safire: It Was A Crime
Newsmax.com
Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004
Quoting U.S. Criminal Code, Chapter 63, Section 1343, New York Times columnist William Safire went straight to the heart of the CBS Rathergate scandal, writing, "At the root of what is today treated as an embarrassing blunder by duped CBS journalists may turn out to be a felony by its faithless sources."
Writing in Wednesday's New York Times, Safire noted that the statute holds, "Whoever, having devised any scheme or artifice to defraud transmits or causes to be transmitted by means of wire, radio or television communication in interstate or foreign commerce, any writings for the purpose of executing such scheme or artifice, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both."
Safire contends that law applies to those who "conceived a scheme to create a series of false Texas Air National Guard documents and append a photocopied signature to one of them."
Says Safire, that person "then helped cause the fraudulent file to be transmitted by means of television communication to millions of voters for the purpose of influencing a federal election" -- which he adds is "no mere 'dirty trick' but a potential violation of federal law..."

I have to vote for The Associated Press and Reuters for rushing to publish without verification a propaganda hoax complete with photo that an American soldier had been taken prisoner in Iraq. The 'soldier' turned out to be a toy doll.
Mikey Moore doesn't need any more awards, imho, (why give him publicity for FRee?).
