Dear Friend:
Two weeks ago, I asked you to sign my pledge supporting full state funding of Virginias obligation to public education, and you responded by joining me in this fight for Virginias schoolchildren.
If you havent signed up to fight with me for education funding, please do it now.
If you have joined us, please spread the word about our important mission.
I want to take this opportunity to let you know that weve been joined in our mission by a very, very important group: Virginias public school teachers. On Friday, April 15, the Virginia Education Association endorsed my candidacy for governor. Im proud to have their support because its a testament to my commitment to public education in Virginia.
Join Virginias teachers in the fight for full education funding.
Ive been on this mission for a long time now. As Mayor of Richmond, I helped build the first new schools in a generation. Then I made education funding a central issue in my 2001 campaign for lieutenant governor. Ive worked with Mark Warner to make major new investments in education over the past several years. Now Im committing to fight for full funding of the states education obligations with every budget I submit when Im governor.
On Tuesday, one of my Republican opponents, Jerry Kilgore, proposed something that worries me I think its a threat to everything Mark Warner and I have fought to do for Virginia public schools. Kilgore proposed a transportation plan that makes big promises on multiple billion-dollar road projects, while vowing to take the money for them from the states General Fund. What alarms me is that the General Fund is where we get our state education funding, and Kilgore wont commit to full funding for education. Under a Kilgore Administration, education funding would compete with big road project campaign promises, and Virginias schoolchildren would lose.
Stand up with me against politicians whose promises threaten our schools.
Im going to fight for Virginias schoolchildren, and Im going to fight for them as I have always fought for them: tenaciously and responsibly. Im not going to let students, their parents, or their teachers down.
Its going to be tough battle, and I need your help. If you havent yet joined the fast-growing list of Virginians committed to full funding of the states education obligations, please join us now. Our children need you fighting for them.
Join us now!
Yours truly,
Tim Kaine

"full state funding of Virginia's obligation to public education" = higher taxes to give the teacher's unions anything they want
Too bad he didn't do squat about the quality of education in Richmond public schools.

It is this way in just about every state in the country now. The far-left pandering to the teachers' unions to keep their corrupt, leftist votes. The libs keep trying to HIDE THE FACT THAT THEIR INCOMPETENCE IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS THE PROBLEM, keep throwing out their old standard mantra -- "WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY". That MAJOR LIE has been debunked so many times, it is beyond question.
Bush's NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND hopefully is flushing out these loser institutions and the loser liberals running them. It is the kids that are suffering!!!
It is more pronounced in the Richmond area. The public schools (while admittedly public schools) in the surrounding counties of Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover are some of the best in the state. Richmond City, some of the worst.
On the Republican side, the VEA has only endorsed Sean Connaughton for Lieutenant Governor (no surprise).
