It was probably a great surprise to the Jack Russell Terrier that he occupies a position several steps from the top of the food chain. They are very confident dogs, generally speaking.

Sounds to me like the alligator made a deal with the ducks. ;-)

"The first thing I yelled was, 'Kathy, get a towel, because Gizmo's gonna be wet.' It didn't even come to my mind that there was even the gator there or didn't even notice him," explained Trudell.

Helloooo; you live in Floridahhhhhh.

The gator preferred dog meat to duck meat?

A related story - about 5 years ago, the enviro whackos from Boston pushed an item on the ballot to eliminate trapping of small animals (beaver, fox etc). Well the effects have come home to roost. Just last week I hade a coyote in the back, and yesterday a fox. Never seen them in by 12 years here. In talking to people in the area we're literally being overrun by coyotes and fox. Lots of missing family pets.
The next thing I expect to see is a lot more sharks around the Nantucket sound and even a bit further north. There has been a major population of seals in the area, and where they go, sharks follow.

Why kill the alligator for doing what it does naturally?

Oh no, not Gizmo!

For some reason just typing that sentence seemed really funny. I guess you have to worry about the gators in Florida. I watch for the snapping turtles here in Texas. You would not believe how many one-legged ducks I've seen.

We don't allow bears and wolves to exist in highly populated areas, so why in the hell aren't 75% of the Alligators in Florida turned into boots and belts?

A few years ago, a little dachshund in Boca Raton, Florida, was let outside by its family....who'd already lost a dog to alligators. The dachshund was gobbled up whole(the little boy saw this from the back door.) Thinking their dog was lost forever, the family was amazed a short time later when there came a scratching at the back door...and there was the dachshund, hale and hearty! She'd been swallowed whole and promptly dug her way out of the gator's side. The vet said her instincts to go down a badger hole were what saved her. Dachshunds fight tooth and claw and only need a small hole to come out. The alligator was found floating belly up, dead, in the pond. Score one for dachshunds!

Oh, man....not another tragedy in Florida. Maybe he should have checked the canine predator list.

Family's Dog Eaten By Alligator After Chasing Ducks To Pond

The gator eating the dog is heart breaking enough, what if it was a child. I would be afraid to allow my kids outside unless the yard had a 6' high fence.

Have never been taken in by the ‘Romanized’ yarns about living in Florida.
