I am curious why those folks choose to define themselves in terms of what they are NOT (a negative position) instead of what the ARE (a positive position).

Take it from where it comes, and then discount it accordingly.

True. Liberal is as liberal does. :-)
Still, I find it odd that they have to sell
their liberalism in terms of being an antidote to
"Americanism."
The last tie that I checked, individual liberty,
Capitalism, personal responsibility, privatisation, etc
are not uniquely American. We, in large part, just happen
to embrace the concepts a bit more. I sincerely wish to
see Canada leave the "dark side" and US-Canadian relations
reach an unprecedented zenith.
