We had another thread about this a while back:

I'm thrilled one of my nominations, Nikola Tesla, was one of the finalists!

Whenever I see their trailers on THC, and I hear them utter the names of Benjamin Franklin and Madonna in the same sentence (or nearly so), I have a painful brain fart and vow never to watch it.

What's the significance of being a Nominant?
Zuit! I can start a campaign to nominate Jeffrey Dahmer!

There's no criteria for qualification? It sounds as useless as a "poll". What's the value of a poll of a large group, 99% of which are dumb as bricks about the particular subject?

Michael Moore

By "greatest" do they mean "fattest"?

In our society, Madonna would win over Franklin. I shudder at who will ultimately be chosen.

Keep us posted. I doubt I'll actually watch the program. Oprah will probably win.

Well, it is interesting that the American Public's views of who are the Greatest Americans are different than the historians' views.

I think this has some value, at least as a curiosity.

Way too many politicians, celebs, and sports figures, and not enough scientists, engineeers, and captains of industry.

Shame on you Discovery Channel, for not understanding what really makes America great.

I know what is unsettling about that rogues gallery: sports figures and actors have no business "acting" as if they're significant or important, never mind "great".

A "Greatest American" poll that offers a choice between George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, etal and Madonna should not be taken too seriously.

Over the last 2 years I have seen the Discovery Channel digress in their programming. What used to be one of the most educational and entertaining channels came off my channel listing about 2 months ago.

They are getting more like the networks and channels like Bravo and Link everyday. PC continues its quest.

This BS list doesn't even pretend to be series.

And if anybody thinks the list is a hoot as I do, check out the message boards over there for some real laughs.
