Zarqawi's Laptop

We've actually had it for a little while now and I'm awaiting more information, but this was a major coup.

Here are a few things about Zarqawi that you probably didn't know:

He's a Windows man. He also uses something called PGP for e-mails, which I was told is some kind of e-mail encryption method. The info on the computer was very helpful towards us capturing a number of his lieutenants. I've heard there's a fair amount of porn. Now that could be disinformation, but given all the drugs, beer bottles, and the like that were found among the Pious Mujahideen™ in Fallujah I'm certainly not going to dismiss it off-hand. There's information on his medical condition, so we may finally get an answer on the issue of how many legs he has and what not. There is at least some record of the correspondence between him and bin Laden. Basically, bin Laden gives him a broad outline as far as strategy is concerned and Zarqawi is in charge of implementing the tactical aspects of his plan together with his lieutenants and allies, such as the Baathists. There's some record of Zarqawi's interaction with Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi, a senior al-Qaeda leader who I gather replaced Hassan Ghul as Zarqawi's al-Qaeda liaison after the latter individual's capture in January 2004. There are recent pictures of Zarqawi and it seems Praktike is quite correct to note that he is indeed a master of disguise. Should make for some interesting viewing for our intelligence folks. I now go back to resume studying for finals.

They should say he had tons of illegally downloaded Metallica songs on his laptop. Their lawyers would be on him like a fat kid on a twinkie....

No suprise there. I've always thought that the Islamo-fascists' hang-ups with women is because they don't get any.

I just skimmed the article about PGP emails....the sender and reciever each have a public key and a private key....whatever that means...

This computer stuff is out of my league....

"I will argue the laptop is almost as good as catching the man himself....if not better."

It probably hasn't inspired a great deal of confidence from Bin Laden. Osama trusted him and he handed us tons of info.

It's pretty ridiculous they advertised they found his laptop. Unless they have had it for some period of time and took the time to go thru it first.

Or - they don't have it and are making people sweat.

But - if they really do have it and like you say and the article states, if there was correspondance with Bin laden, I would hope they email Osama and posed as Zarqawi and said "So, where are you now?" but I doubt they did.

It's pretty ridiculous they advertised they found his laptop

They had it for over two months...it has lead to several arrests and raids.

Col Hunt on O's show last night said they have located his bank accounts in different countries.

Zarqawi hasn't made any mistakes up to now....but his losing this computer was the break we have been waiting for.

The only mistake-and it's a colossal one, in my opinion-was the decision on the part of the Jordanian authorities not to execute him when they had the opportunity to do so.

But as far as Zarqawi himself, I suppose you're correct.

-good times, G.J.P. (Jr.)

Symmetrical key: you use the same string to encrypt/decrypt a file.

Asymmetrical key: you one string to encrypt and a different string to decrypt.

PGP uses asymmetrical keys. One, the public key, is widely available/known and anyone can use it to encrypt a file and email it to you. When you receive the file, you use your private key to decrypt the file.

The concept is actually simple even though the math etc. behind it isn't.

Well, I note that they didn't specify that the porn was pictures of nekkid women....
