Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Wednesday morning that he'll press for the release of findings by independent counsel David Barrett, whose probe into former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros reportedly concluded that Clinton officials at the Internal Revenue Service conducted politically motivated audits of White House enemies.
"I believe the investigators should be permitted to complete their work and to issue their final report," Sen. Frist told syndicated radio host Tony Snow, who had asked if he would guarantee the report's release. "I'm pressing the conferees on the supplemental bill to take that amendment out," the Republican leader added.
Frist was referring to a rider attached to an Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill by Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., that will fund government operations after September 30 - but will defund Barrett's probe and prevent the publication of his report.
Dorgan's rider will reportedly bury charges that key officials in the Justice Department and the IRS abused their power by targeting political opponents of Bill Clinton.
Writing on his Web site, Snow said, "those charges — not the Cisneros case — have served as the focal point of Barrett’s investigation for the last several years."
At least a dozen Clinton scandal witnesses – including Sexgate accusers Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Elizabeth Ward Gracen and Juanita Broaddrick – were targeted by audits during the 1990s.
Conservative groups critical of the Clinton administration were also audited, including the Christian Coalition, Citizens for a Sound Economy, the Freedom Alliance, the Heritage Foundation, the NRA and others.
Most of the suspicious audits took place when the IRS was run by Margaret Milner Richardson, a longtime friend of Sen. Hillary Clinton from their days together at Yale Law School.

The Paula Jones audit alone raised flares back in the 90s. At her income level, the odds of an audit were less likely than being struck by lightning.

These spurious audits didn't just happen to big named conservatives and groups during the Clintoon era. A lot of conservatives got hammered with phoney audits. If they were vocal at a local level about the Clintoons, had some power with the Republicans and were successful, they might be targets.
I had several friends, who owned their own businesses in several states get audited for years from about 1994 until GW won. Nothing was proven by the IRS. One relative was audited 5 times, and finally his CPA told him to stop writing letters to the fish wrap editors complaining about Clintoon. He spent over $100,000 and a lot of misery proving that he had done nothing.
Conservative Doctors across America, who fought the Hildebea$t and turned back her socialized medicine push, suddenly found themselves being audited as far back as the laws permitted. Many got tired of the fight and took early retirement from medicine.
This is just one more reason that the tax system needs to be scrapped and replaced with the Fair Tax, that way there wouldn't be any more audits.

Exactly. A fair tax will be collected whenever we buy something. Then, the potential threat/terror of an audit will no longer be a political weapon.
The relative I was citing and a long time friend lived in Oklahoma. They didn't know each other, but their problems with IRS were similiar and very troubling.
They were active in local politics and very vocal against the Clintoons in 1992 and after they were sworn in.
They had audit after audit preceding the 96 elections. Then the IRS told them that they had made too much money as owners of their businesses. This was a club the IRS was using after losing the audit wars. That was a scary charge. How can you make too much money as owners of a business. I guess they didn't give enough to the Rats and their phoney non profits. This BS just went away after about 1 year after GW was sworn in. A lot of Republican MDs, Dentists and other health professionals got pounded with this bs about making too much profit during the Clintoon reign of terror.

Sadly but I'm guessing the same. They are sooo protected by the elites that no one can get to them. Of course being the most corrupt in a corrupt Washington does give you special privileges.
Clinton didn't have the tapes, but he did use the FBI files.

For what it's worth, I find Bill O'Reilly only slightly more credible than the Klintoons.
