[San Francisco] POCKED ROADS BUMP TO TOP OF NEWSOM'S LIST - Great city's streets full of holes
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/27/5 | Rachel Gordon

On the day he was sworn in as San Francisco's 42nd mayor 16 months ago, Gavin Newsom stood on the steps of City Hall during his inaugural address and promised: "I will tackle the smallest pothole.''

He hasn't tackled enough of them of late, as the backlog of requests now reaches into the hundreds.

Faced with a mounting budget deficit, Newsom cut the number of pothole- repair crews earlier this year from three to two, and city drivers, cyclists and even pedestrians are noticing.

Now, in the wake of Newsom's own bumpy ride down Seventh Avenue in the Sunset District and a new survey by the city controller that found residents increasingly dissatisfied with the condition of San Francisco's streets, the mayor is moving to make sure he doesn't start to pay a political price. This week he called for more funding to increase the street-repair workforce.

"If I have any influence in this town, you can start thinking about that, '' Newsom told his budget director, Ben Rosenfield,

Well the mayor should feel right at home, since the area between his ears is one huge pothole!

"Pot and other holes." LOL

Potholes have long been a problem in SF. Back when DiFi was mayor, she had the streets fixed, the homeless encampments moved away from downtown, and basically made the city safer for tourists and businessmen alike. She was raked over the coals for it by progressives, who called her "the cleaning lady."

No way to win in that city, even if you win the election.

Another great example of what the far-left will do just to have power and control -- Newsome. Professional law-breaker and pander expert to perverted and whacked-out leftist fringe. Their numbers are growing in San Freakcisco and normal people, and businesses, are flowing out of the city, along with the revenues they once provided. But, as the liberal history book shows us, this leftist s***-hole is going right down, just like ANYTHING else the left touches. A mecca of liberal radicalism, the activist Ninth Circuit Court, sex-change operations for city employees, all the things that are important to key American cities...right?

California was once a great state. I was here, when it was, and now, when it is not. Not for long.

Gay marriage

Is this the reason his wife is divorcing him? I knew that guy was just a bit too pretty.

There has been no credible accusation that Newsom is a homosexual. His marriage broke up because his former Victoria Secret model wife (Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former S.F. district attorney lawyer) works at Court TV and is in NYC at least five days a week. They are apart from each other constantly by choice. The real question is, "How did it last as long as it did?"

Didn't the city make enough money off the marriage licenses for gays? Or did they have to give refunds on that?

It's amazing to me to have to say the best S.F. mayor in my adult life is Feinstein. But it's true.

I ran into the Senator back in 2002, when the Giants won the National League pennant and were going to the World Series. During a lunch break, I went to the Giants store at Embaracadero Plaza, and amongst the crowd, there was Feinstein, browsing the racks with an aide (or a bodyguard), picking out new Giants jackets for herself and others, apparently.

The controversy regarding N.J. Senator Frank Torricelli's withdrawal from the November '02 election and seemingly illegal replacement with Frank Lautenberg was raging at that moment. Lautenberg was inserted by the Democrats despite a prohibitive deadline because polls showed he only he -- not Torricelli -- could beat conservative GOP challenger Doug Forrester. Lautenberg, who instantly took a poll lead in the poll once he was in, backed off a pledge to debate Forrester. I felt the itching urge to Freep her, but I didn't want to cause a scene; this was less than a year after 9/11, and I didn't want to spook the guy with her.

As I was waiting in line, and she came within earshot, I said, "Senator, can I ask you a question?" She smiled and said, "Sure!" I said, "Don't you think that Frank Lautenberg should debate Doug Forrester?" She raised her eyebrows, and took a breath, and said, "Yes, I do think he should." I thanked her, and that was it.

I don't know what I will do if I should be in the same space with Pelosi or Boxer. I don't know if I could resist a scene in that case.

From the SF Chronicle, Oct 24, 2004:

...According to the Post, Guilfoyle Newsom closed her remarks by joking, "I know that many of you wanted to see my husband, and some of you had questions out there.
"Is he hot? Yeah.
"Is he hung? Yeah.
"Is he (she waved her hand to suggest gay)?"
At which point, according to the Post's version that we repeated, Guilfoyle Newsom said: "Not unless you can give a better," while she mimicked eating a banana....

Of course, shortly after she said this, they announced their divorce. Is there a better bananaman in Gavin's life?

There is a lot more to worry about than potholes. What was once one of the most beautiful cities in America will be turned into a turd world s**thole by the time the Liberals are through with it!

Good story about DiFi. At least she has a brain in her head, which cannot be said about Pelosi and Boxer. You could have flattened those two without half trying. Boxer, as you know, is ranked year after year as second-stupidest member of Congress by the staffers on the Hill, with only Patty Moron Murray outranking her for that dubious honor.

I moved to SF just a few months before Dan White assasinated Mayor Moscone and city councilman Harvey Milk. DiFi conducted herself magnificently while breaking the news on tv and stepping into the mayor's shoes. (My dh and I sort of stepped into Moscone's window table at the North Beach Restaurant, at least during lunchtimes. Guess none of the native SFers wanted it.)
