Stop Liberals From Filibustering the Faithful ... Protect America

By Kevin Fobbs

April 27, 2005

Somewhere along the way the liberals on Capitol Hill got it all wrong. They earnestly and quite mistakenly believe that the rule of law in America is that a minority of disaffected senators should deny Americans and the president the right to see the Constitution work the way the framers and architects intended it work. They are banking on the fact that most Americans will either be too tired to hear one more word about the filibuster or so tuned out about it use or its affect on their lives that the liberals on Capitol Hill can do work they crude obstructionist handiwork out of sight of the American voter.

"America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!"

But, many Americans are paying attention to what is transpiring in America. Americans understand that the first step toward the dismantling of America is to disengage the judiciary, to handicap the President's ability to have full use and exercise of his constitutional mandate and to in effect decapitate America's leadership by controlling the rule of law.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist went on a nationwide telecast Sunday night to churches all across America, courtesy of such stalwart leaders like Dr. James Dobson, Chuck Colson and Albert Mohler to alert our nation of faith that he may have to use the "nuclear option" to allow for a majority vote on the President's federal appeals court judicial nominees.

The target of the "nuclear option" is the 200-year-old tradition of the Senate filibuster which has been hijacked by liberals in the U.S. Senate. Its use has allowed and empowered 41 or more senators to prevent a majority of senators from exercising their constitutional duty to offer "Advise and Consent" on the President's nominees.

Liberals in the senate have abused their power -- and the one and only way to return the Senate to an institution of genuine bipartisan cooperation and compromise on important issues is for Senator Frist and the Republican Senators to exercise leadership by ending the filibuster rule as it applies to appointments by the president of judicial nominees.

The "nuclear option" became patently necessary due to the clearly abysmal actions taken by the federal courts, not only in the Terry Schiavo case at the federal level, but the impact the Florida state court judge had in being allowed to totally ignore the Constitutional protected afforded all Americans to Due Process.

This was a legal system at the federal level and at a state level that literally put to death a woman, executing her by juridical fiat in plain sight. The Florida state judge ignored the rule of law of Florida, ignored the facts and even ignored the protection and sanctity of life which is guaranteed within the framework of the Constitution. In effect Judge Greer made new law from his bench...the true intent of the law was all but ignored.

Millions of Americans saw that travesty played out in their living rooms, in their offices, in their places of worship. They saw the liberal roadblocks carefully crafted by the nation's "Death lobby". They watched in dismay as the fanatics who are the purveyors of the "culture of Death" embraced ending a woman's life as casually as one would put out a cigarette. This was a judiciary that had lost its way...and the use of the "nuclear option" will allow the president to appoint judges who will embrace the constitutionally protected sanctity of life.

"O beautiful for heroes prov'd In liberating strife, Who more than self their country loved, And mercy more than life."

So, America was not sleeping as the death lobby had hoped. Americans who believe in life decided that they would be engaged in the right to life, the right to stand for life and the right to stand against a judiciary that would so casually and so easily deprive a family of its daughter, its sister, and its loved one...all because a judge could decide that the constitutional protection of "Due Process" was just a set of words, with no real meaning and no real value.

America was not sleeping nor was it taking a nap as the liberals had hoped when the Congress decided to step up to the plate and pass a law to protect the sanctity of one person's life because as the president had said on several occasions, "We must always err on the side of life." Americans knew that it was a judicial system that had lost its way, and a judicial system that would put anyone to death...if left to interpret the law any way it wanted, and congressional action met nothing at all.

That is why U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, himself a well respected medical doctor decided that he and his fellow senators as well as millions of Americans had grown tired and spent from this charade. Now was the time for the U.S. Senate to live up to its obligation, to stand firm for the Constitution and allow the president to do his job and then allow the senate to carry out its responsibility, to act judiciously on the presidential appointments for the appeals court.

"O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears."

There is a new revolution of the protection of our traditional family values occurring in America's Heartland. It is made up of Americans who will not wait for judges to learn to do their job. It is made up of our fellow countrymen who feel that it is more important to write emails, make phone calls, and hold meetings in their homes for mail parties so that of hundreds of letters would be sent to their elected leaders in congress. This was a true revolution that not only recruited them to action, but was now going to keep them on the line, on the defensive at one time, but now on the offensive to restore the glimmer and shine to the Constitution.

This was done so that when the full power of the Constitution was restored it would allow for the equal bodies of government to co-exist. When this happens we will have all won. This new revolution meant that when our children read the Stars Spangled Banner, the words "My Country tis of thee Sweet Land of Liberty of thee I sing.....means something more than an historic musical refrain.

When the balance of power is restored in Washington D.C. and the judicial appointment blockade is ended, the tyranny of the minority will have ended. The super majority fallacy engineered by the Democrats will have evaporated into the dust bins of time.

Not since the American Revolution or the Civil War has two sides been so clearly drawn the lines in the sand. This is a traditional bare-knuckles fight to bring some degree of constitutional sanity to the U.S. Senate. America can not afford to lose this fight.

"America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea."

America the Beautiful...Our nation's future weighs in the balance.

The crossroad has been reached. This week will either hold the Republicans in power or the fall will start. Frist has delayed too long, and the American people that supported the party will start to falter. If he runs next term he might, with all the Republicans, find themselves the minority.
