House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., warned on Sean Hannity's radio show last week that there are "four or five cases out there dealing with top-level Democrats," whom he did not name.
Big Media will be breaking this story - any minute now...

As reports about DeLay's travel with lobbyists mount, Republican leaders are attempting to shift attention get equal attention paid to questionable activities of Democrats. There. That's better.

actually i think Tom Delay will survive this becase the president is behind him.
in the long run i think it is great that both sides of the aisle are begining to see that their "elite" status isn't quite what they have flaunted for so long.
and some decorum of propriety is required.

For Pelosi, I think the Vieques trip is the most damning.
She and Tubbs Jones and a bunch of other Dems went there to protest the Navys bombing range.
Being anti military might play well with her district groupies, but flyover America aint gonna like it much.

Members of Congress are rushing to amend their travel and campaign records, fearing that the controversy over House Majority Leader Tom DeLay will trigger an ethics war that will bring greater scrutiny to their own travel and official activities.Just goes to show they ought to be careful what they ask for.

I have always wondered how 1st Lady Clinton could take her "child" and entourage to Africa and Asia, all expenses paid at taxpayer expense.
Where in the Constitution does it grant the 1st Lady unlimited budget for Travel and Perks?
Why wasn't she called to account by the Congressional Budget Office?
What authoritized her to include her enormous retinue?
Delay, he is a piker compared to the former 1st Lady!

In another case, an aide to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had not reported a 2004 trip to South Korea until a Washington Post reporter asked her office about it. And of course that immediately resulted in a big story in the Washington Post headlined Pelosi Failed to Report Trip.
What, it didn't? Why not?
Eddie Charmaine Manansala, Pelosi's special assistant on East Asian affairs, filed a disclosure form for the $9,087 trip a few hours after the newspaper's inquiry and sent a note to the ethics committee saying, "I did not know I was supposed to file these forms and I apologize for its lateness."
Oh, see that? Pelosi's office apologized after being tipped off by the Washington Post that she had a problem. Nothing to see here folks... move along. Ya gotta love the media. Bias? What bias? |

While the Senate deliberates the nuclear option, the House seems bent on mutually assured destruction. Dr. Strangelove couldn't have written a better script for the collapse of political discourse in this country.
