It is out of hand, but there's not a whole lot we can do about it. I think we've just come to accept that gas prices would be between $1 and $1.50.
My advice is that we all need to budget for higher fuel use.
What time frame do you suggest using?
Evil Big Water Co.!
Well, now I see why you were not kind to my time frame of a year ago. Sure, go back 7 years to get your "I'm paying $300 more a month!"
Why not go back to when gas was a nickle and really bitch about how much "more" your paying.
Any mention of the ever rising cost of milk and other dairy products?
I just wanted to know what time frame you were talking about.
$20 bucks for two people to go to the movies.
That would be absurd now, wouldn't it? Just bend over while the envirowhackos, liberals, arabs and spineless republicans stick it to you. I don't even know why I care about gas prices, though. Seems like they're doing a better job of taking my money every week when my boss does payroll.
I got tired of the gas prices so I quit buying two cartons of cigarettes a month, will quit altogether next month, and that will save me about $80.00 per month. That money will more than compensate for the rise in gas prices. However I do see the writers' point that high gas prices will begin to affect the economy, and not in a good way.
Upfront I'll admit this wasn't intentional but . . .
I traded in my car that required 91 octane for one that didn't. The new car also gets about 6mpg more (as measured at the pump, not epa).
Viola! What rising gas prices??!!??
Does Ann know you drive a minivan?
I had it even before I had a kid.
Know how great they are for a large group traveling around to bars, or a bunch of guys going on a drunken golf vacation?
Minivans are a true party car.
On the 50 cents per gallon issue, it has risen 50 cents on average nationwife since January. Me? I simply stopped driving so much. I am a disabled vet so I either take a bus where I need to go or walk. I fill up my tank once a month and that's it.
Right. That's the real danger of high gas prices, the change in consumer spending at the pump is relatively trivial. But trivial or not, it is the most visible increase and so gets the most attention.
At the risk of sounding like a liberal, the idea that everyone should go through 1000 plus gallons of gas a year in mostly frivolous personal transportation is a disastrous energy policy that hurts every domestic industry and puts us in the expensive and dangerous position of keeping friendly terms with oil producing thugocracies around the world.
I get all the gas I want for cheap with a $5 meal at my local greasy spoon!
I really need to go to decent restaurants.
I'm all for nuclear power, but do you really believe that XOM couldn't build a few more refineries SOMEWHERE in the world? Why should they? Follow the money.
"Because of idiotic "environmental" controls, this country hasn't built a new gasoline refinery in 30 years."
IDIOTIC environmental controls ping!
"Allow the 'EVIL' oil companies to build more refineries!"
AND
Build THERMALDEPOLYMERIZATION plants to mine the riches of our landfills!
Are you ready for a buck a gallon gas?!?!

"...mostly frivolous personal transportation..."
At the risk of sounding like a conservative, who decides what is "frivolous?"
Government's job is to protect ones right to make decision (and live with the consequences of those decisions), not judge the decisions.
