Ferguson signs Taxpayer Protection Pledge, issues challenge to Plum
Congressman Steve Stockman witnesses
[Reston] Donny Ferguson (L-36th) gave voters a clear choice for the House of Delegates Monday afternoon, signing the Americans for Tax Reform Taxpayer Protection Pledge with former Congressman Steve Stockman witnessing.
Ferguson then issued an open challenge to his opponent, Del. Ken Plum (D-36th) to join him in signing the Pledge, which Ferguson mailed to Plums home.
Ken Plum has dedicated his political career to crusading for skyrocketing taxes, said Ferguson, Whether its his County Income Tax scheme, his six-cent per gallon gas tax, his numerous bills for sales tax hikes or his $250 per person Dulles toll hike, Ken Plum virtually flaunts his contempt for his own constituents.
After a quarter-century, we need a change.
Ferguson also mailed blank Taxpayer Protection Pledges to both Plums home and Richmond office Monday and included stamped, addressed envelopes so he may return the Pledge to ATR at Fergusons expense.
After a quarter-century of shaking down his constituents for endless tax hikes, I kindly suggest that Delegate Plum do the right thing and sign the Pledge, said Ferguson, I know he likes doing things at other peoples expense, so Ive even paid for the envelopes and postage myself.
Fergusons signature was witnessed by former Congressman Steve Stockman. In 1994, an underfunded Stockman defeated the House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Congressman Jack Brooks. Ferguson worked in Stockmans district office, served on his 1996 re-election campaign and on his 1998 race for Texas Railroad Commission.
Like Plum, Brooks was a long-time Democratic incumbent in a Democratic district, and one of the Houses most senior members. Brooks, considered by pollsters to be invincible, saw his 42-year political career end at the hands of voters upset over his support of higher taxes.
Ferguson is the Libertarian candidate in the 36th District. His website is www.DonnyFerguson.com and the campaigns daily blog is at DonnyFerguson.blogspot.com.
