City lawyers overruled the Police Department and charged a band of Brooklyn toughs with a hate crime for allegedly shouting, "Black power!" as they beat up a group of girls in Marine Park, The Post has learned.
In a case that roiled racial tensions in Brooklyn — and became a rallying point on white-supremacy Web sites — locals are now second-guessing law enforcement.
Cops locked up five of the alleged attackers — all juveniles — but did not charge them with a bias crime.
The city's Corporation Counsel Office, which prosecutes cases in Family Court, raised the charges against the assailants.
Sources said the initial report did not include the comments allegedly made by the suspects. "It should have been a hate crime from day one," fumed one parent.
The attack took place on March 30 in Marine Park as six 15-year-old Catholic schoolgirls were shooting hoops on Fillmore Avenue and Marine Parkway at about 3 p.m.
Police sources said six to eight black girls from Marine Park JHS marched into the middle of the white girls' three-on-three basketball game and demanded the court.
Some adults intervened and the alleged assailants walked away only to return three or four times with a progressively larger gang, the victims said.
Finally, a posse of 20 to 30 girls set upon the victims with kicks and punches, while shouting, "White crackers," "Black power," and, curiously, "Martin Luther King."
"I thought I was going to die," one girl told The Post. "At first they just walked on our court. We didn't say anything. But they kept coming back. It looked like the crowd got bigger every time they came back."

Either enforce hate crimes evenly or dispose of them all. Murder is murder, assault is asssault, the reason why is immaterial.
MLK, a comic once said something like that it is ironic that every town of size has a MLK Jr. Street and it is usually where all the murders or shootings take place.

As much as I hate the blue states, the city lawyers did the right thing here and shame on the city police department for not seeing this crime for what it is/was.
Hate is hate and racism is racism, no matter who does it.

Blacks can't be charged with Hate Crime Ping
Equal Protection rights are being seriously violated here. Time to do a race statistical analysis of hate-crime prosecutions.
They punched us, kicked us, took our stuff, all the while shouting "Howard Beach!" (a reference to a racial assault on a black man in Queens), "Cracker Bitch" and similar comments.
We went to the police, and our statement was taken by two black detectives who conveniently forgot to mention the racial aspect of the crime in their report.
Oddly enough, by the most common dictionary definition of the word "racism" this is more or less correct.
Racism is defined first as the belief that a race is superior, and only second as hatred of another race.
Since most blacks do not really believe they are superior, by the first definition they are not racist even though they hate whites.
Very weird, but that's what the words mean.
Years ago, when I was in the Air Force, I had to undergo the standard "Social Actions" classes when I went to the NCO Leadership Academy. The Social Actions instructor came in hurling racial epithets with the intent of making everyone get a little unsettled and to spark frank discussions. For the next two hours, the black class members ranted and raved about discrimination, lack of black hair care products at certain bases (in Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota), and how they were mistreated by their supervisors.
The white class members just sat there silent, avoiding any participation that might rile up the other half of the class any. During the lunch break, the white half of the class gave vent to their feelings, describing how they had been physically threatened when they went into the NCO club on "Soul" night to drink and dance. Many of them had been mugged, assaulted, or otherwise threatened.
After lunch, they went back to class and sat there quietly enduring the afternoon's tirades avoiding participation, because they knew that any infraction against the Social Actions department could be a career-ender.
That evening, I went to the base library to do research for a paper for the class. I was stunned to see on the library's "Community" board a Black History Month montage featuring prominent African-Americans like Angela Davis (60's revolutionary, Communist Party VP and Pres candidate)and Louis Farrakhan (who was buddy-buddy with Khadafy in Libya), and several leaders of the Black Panthers.
Here we were, sworn to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic and there was this bulletin board loaded with prominent people that sought the overthrow of the government. Go figure.

Heck with the "Hate Crimes" stuff, I'd charge them with Domestic Terrorism.
A few years back, I met a guy who was present when two black soldiers gunned down about a 1/2 dozen white soldiers. Everyone involved was sworn to secrecy. It was written off as an 'accident'.
I tended to believe the guy, as he was in charge of the soldiers and black himself. He still struggles with what happened and the aftermath.
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
This pack of 30 racist thugs has just created six girls into people who will probably never have a black friend. And possibly dislike black people on sight.
Of course given crime statistics, one could make the point that a low intensity racial war against white people has been going on for some time now.
only white people can be charged with "hate" crimes.
