Anyone whos lived in the United States over the past few decades knows what Fondas lifes been about sexual liberation, the anti-war movement, health and nutrition, the entrepreneurial spirit, feminism, etc. because our own lives have been about those issues.
In an eerie way that urges us to consider how deeply celebrities reflect and affect our culture, Jane Fondas life has mirrored Americas life.
Especially the lives of American women.
Still, there are a few surprises in her book that will catch you off-guard.
For example, its pretty obvious from page one that Fondas no bimbo actress.
Shes smart.
And not just book smart. Shes earned some street cred over the years for her politics and business savvy.
Shes also a good writer. Not surprising, perhaps, given her private school education and time at Vassar.
Whats more surprising is that shes also an avid reader, recently polishing off "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell and "Gods Politics" by Jim Wallis.
It was a book, in fact, that nudged her to begin her autobiography.
"In one of the many miracles that seem to surround my life," Fonda said in an interview with the Sentinel last week, "seven years ago two years before Ted (Turner) and I split up a house guest brought me a copy of Anne Lamotts Bird By Bird, and I read it, and then after my 60th birthday, re-read it, and thats what gave me the courage to write my book."
On Sunday evening, Fonda will talk about her life to a sold-out crowd at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz.

...and the horse she rode in on.
Hey, the Hollywood commies all know right where to flock to in California...to the liberal bastion of Santa Cruz, which carries as much liberal stench as San Freakcisco. Love the leftist pandering in this piece...so typical and predictable, so much so, I did not read the rest of it. Barf bucket was already full.
The lives of people in Santa Cruz may well have been "about those issues." I think most of us had better things to do with our time.
Hint: It smells like tofu f*rts.
Another prime example of something that should be given to the Mexicans.
Egad. I looked for a date in the article and could not find one. I was wondering if it coencided with an inexplicable feeling of nausea my wife and I recently experienced.
They had a Navy Day and told the Navy they weren't invited ?
Ptui.
I dare her to bring that message to a part of the country filled with patriots, like San Diego CA, or Scottsdale AZ, or Sandhurts ID, or Colorado Springs CO, or Branson MO, or Huntsville AL, or Destin FL, or Ashville NC, or Norfolk VA. She wouldn't get a single word out.
Then complained cause the town wasn't receive any money that weekend from the tourists.
I dare her to bring that message to a part of the country filled with patriots....
======
And that is EXACTLY WHY she is going where she is going -- to her own ilk, that will be praising the ground she walks on! If she tried one of the cities you noted, well, they still hold blanket parties for old commie traitors like Hanoi Jane....
Doom on em......they'll be looking for the Navy etc when and if.
The author speaks for himself here.
Fonda will talk about her life
What life??????
I really don't know anyone more hated by my generation.
Exactly...goes to show how out of touch and how cloistered these libs are.
They need to get out of their private clubs, restaurants and coffee houses and check with America once every century or so.
BTW, lib enclaves are built to keep out the majority of US citizens with high $$ real estate prices and restrictive building/enviro covenants....and libs claim to speak for the average American...what a freakin' joke.
Santa Cruz, Palm Beach, The Hamptons, Beverly Hills, Sausalito, the list goes on & on.
Unfortunately, there are many burned-out peaceniks (many of whom are now professors in college) whom admire Hanoi Jane for what she did.
Creepy thing is, they are teaching our kids.......
Last week the average price in San Mateo Count, Calif, hit $900K. Average! Of course housing prices in California are no concern to UCSC Faculty, as they all probably get subsidized housing. The President certainly does: she and her 'companion' (female, natch) get free housing courtesy of the university.
